Is the rear hatch suppose to lock with the button on the drivers door?

My 4runner doesn't have a remote for the locks, it wasn't optioned. But I can still lock and unlock all 4 doors through the door lock or the front door switch. But my rear hatch can only be locked/unlocked using the key hole above the license plate.

This is rather strange considering all the other doors have lock actuators. Is my rear hatch suppose to be controllable through the switch on the drivers door? Is mine broken?

What year is your 4R? My '18 SR5 hatch locks with the door switch...and the fob.

My 2002 hatch locks with the driver's door.

All cars with power locks that I have dealt with will lock all "openings" when the driver's lock is activated. Regardless it having a key fob.

I would investigate as it sounds you have something broken.

@Trekker my rear hatched always locked with my doors

Can you hear the actuator in the rear? Maybe it failed or better yet, is gunked up and requires a good cleaning

Something is amiss, all doors including hatch would lock/unlock with buttons on my old 99

Remember, one of the very common issues is the rear hatch wiring harness starts breaking wires after 20+ years of flexing.

I would get the FSM, look at the wire colors for the rear hatch actuator and check for continuity across that harness.
