Here is my 85, not the original engine, 3.0 6 cylinder. I bought knowing it had some issues, but the body, frame, everything but the motor is sound. I know I blew a head gasket, not an inexpensive repair. I think I would be miles ahead if I buy a rebuilt with a warranty. People around me keep saying, "Stop raising those trucks from the grave!" They dont get it so I dont run questions like this by them. Any thoughts. I appreciate all responses!!!Murf

It's not that you're "raising these trucks from the grave", it's that they never die in the first place!

My wife said put a new motor in it and be done with it. At my age, it will part of my will. Your observations are spot on! Perfect! I flushed the cooling system, replaced hoses and thermostat, and put a reputable stop leak product in that yielded a great result. Temp fix until I upgrade the motor. Not sure.if I am going 4 or 6, but either way, I will be good to go. THANKS MURF

i went ahead and took the advice of a former 4th grade student I had early in my teaching career, used a.stop leak product after totally cleaning the ayste n and replacing hoses, clamps, and.thermostat. IT WORKED (at least for now.) I still have the blessing of my wife to go ahead and put a rebuilt back in it. i have a 91 pickup with the same engine, extra parts. Thanks to all who replied, MURF

Installed Rago brackets and 4" cube ditch lights. Weather tech mats. Cargo net. Cargo mat. Ordered Gobi rack with ladder.
That is a fantastic truck. I vote for Fixer up!

Frame, body, interior everything, primo condition / and 115000 plus a one change mileage. 91 is in great shape even after hitting 2 deer in one week.

Have you thought about putting in a 3.4? That would be my favorite choice.

That is an awesome 4Runner! I would love to have one of those. I'm not a 3.0 fan. I would go with a 22re or a 3.4.
