Denver metro - 1st time 4Runner owner

Hi All,

First time owner of a Toyota 4Runner. Learning lots now and appreciate this forum. Looking forward to learn more about running boards for my 2021 Limited Nightshade Magnetic Gray. Finding good info already here. Thanks!

Got it! Can only do so much while at work

I purchased a 2001 GMC Jimmy back in early 2004 and drove it until picking up this 2021 4Runner Limited Nightshade a few months ago. TBH, I loved my Jimmy, it served me well for many years on hunting and fishing outings. It got me through numerous 20+ inch snows, when I needed to assist stranded family and friends or needed to get myself home from the airport after late night and delayed flights during these types of storms.

So, when I finally decided it was time to let it go, my research led me to Toyota's 4Runner. I really wasn't interested in "bigger" 4WD options or "smaller" ones. The 4Runner gives me a bit more room, yet I can still park it my garage without having to open the garage door every time I need to get around it. I had enough brushing snow off during the winters in my younger days. I'm happy with its size overall (not too big and not too small).

I got to really appreicate the Jimmy's Auto 4WD feature all those years, and after some digging and finally figuring out just what "limited" meant for the 4Runner, I was intrigued. I was not fixed on a "Nightshade", that was my wife's idea. But after perusing my options in the used market at the time, this is where we landed, a "plain jane" Limited Nightshade Magnetic Gray (and a happy wife).

I'm not yet convinced I want to add the OEM running boards. That's why I'm here, and looking to learn a lot from you all.

Just looked at your "My Failed A/T vs Snow" video. Very nice! I ran Toyo Open Country AT tires on my Jimmy all those years. The combination never failed me. The Limited I picked up in mid-March came with Yokohama Geolander (G96B) ATs. The tread is still pretty good on these tires, and I think they are supposed to be decent ATs, we'll see. I haven't had a chance yet to see what this Limited feels like drivieng in a 12-20+ inch snow, but looking foward to it.
