Replaced the bushings in the shifter. It had been rattling like hell and the key kept getting stuck in the ignition. Turns out the bushings had pretty much turned to dust. Got rid of the rattle and the shifter is now as smooth as butter. Best of all, it was a $5 fix.

I just realized that when you use the key on the front passenger door, it unlocks all the doors as well as locks them. Just like the Corolla you touch the passenger door handle and it unlocks the other doors. Must be a Toyota thing. I have never used the door key lock before.

dynamat and then dynaliner-ed the front floor so i could get the rug and seats back in and make it useable while this project is in progress. only took this one pic unfortunately. i steam cleaned the seats and carpet before putting them back in, 25 years of dust and dirt is no joke even with all weather mats

still need to do the trunk, side panels, doors, and roof but glad that i got this chunk done so i can still drive it as needed

None. Bone Stock. EXCEPT: Brushguard, tow hitch, both welded to the frame. It's good to have friends and a fully equipped garage!
Obviously I'm a little slow on getting stuff posted, BUT:

Yesterday I got into my 99 4Runner, which was a major effort with a prosthetic leg. I got into it though! I adjusted the seat to the right length, and fired it up. Originally, I just wanted to run it for a bit, charge the battery up, etc. I couldn't resist, though. I practised pressing the gas pedal with my prosthetic, and was able to get some nice, fine control of the RPM. As though I was driving. Starting out from a stop sign, and so forth. I even practised going from the gas pedal to the brake pedal, both pressing hard, and gently, simulating various stopping situations, including an emergency stop, a gentle pull up to a traffic light, and etc. Everything I could think of. It was a very short practise session, but I felt I could drive the truck very comfortably. WITH my prosthetic on my right leg. I was worried I would have to get an auto trans vehicle, but no, I feel I could drive again easily.

Next step is to back out of my driveway, and go back in again several times. Maybe Tuesday. I would do it tomorrow, But I have an appointment. To get the next size prosthetic! I'm working towords the final one but it could take a year or two. Eventually, I'll have one that will clamp down onto a stocking, with a push button release.

In the mean time, I need to work on driving my 4Runner again. I live in a housing development, yeah, I know, but it has gravel roads throughout, and a 15 MPH speed limit, so I have miles of practise space available. Plus, I can put the truck in 4WD, both 4H and 4L, without worrying about jamming up the ADD or anything. Lets me get the 4WD portions of the truck excersized, as well as practising MY driving abilities.

One nice thing, though. Since I'd be flat on my back, I can lube up the U- and cardan-joints. Not to mention changing the transmission and differential oils. Getting back UP will be a bit of an adventure, but I can climb up inside the front door, using the step, the seats, and so on. Then put my leg back on and awaaay I go. The Oh-&^%* handles on the passenger side will help a lot too, for getting up into the seat.

My life is looking up, every day! I hope you all are having as good a time as I am.
    Pat☺

I think I just turned 318,000miles what a great reliable vehicle. I know it’s not worth much.

'99 Not really mine (my son's); taught my son to do front brakes including new braided lines and fluid change. He is now in the process of putting in new seatbelts in the rear seat. He cross-threaded a bolt so now he's learning what a tap and die set does. . .

After 317k miles the transmission went out on the truck. If anyone's got an AT for a 2k 4r Ltd 4wd i'd be interested in buying. I'm in Kansas City, Mo.

towed it 600 miles home with a uhaul. it was due for an overhaul anyway.

Last week changed H2O pump and timing belt on 3.4L. Today my son flushed the trans fluid with a little help from . . .

Oh yeah, new plugs and wires. There was a portion of old plug boot left in #3 leading to inconsistent misfire. This is the first set we've done on the truck.

Started it. I let it idle for a bit. Turn it off let it sit, to warm. Then start it again for a bit.
