No check engine lights on, runs smooth. Currently about all I do is city driving, so I am guessing this is the majority of the reason. It seems to be more gradual, which seems to fit in line with more city driving, less long-distance trips.

Some of it is simply for aesthetics and some of it is for durability. While I'm not planning to be doing anything excessive, I would like the ability to be offroad with less concern. Bumpers are still in debate, but sliders is definitely on the list. Sliders can double as a step for shorter people and can also work when accessing anything on the roof rack (more future stuff). Roof rack for hauling camping/outdoor gear.

Coming from a little six-speed manual, Mazda 3... that was a fun little car and you could certainly push corners harder, etc. It is definitely possible that I am getting on the throttle a bit more as I've grown more familiar with the size/weight of the 4R.

Hadn't that specifically about shopping carts, but that is a good point. Blocking idiots from dinging doors will be great too!

Are you babying it? I was definitely driving it like a grandpa when I first got it, and I'm sure that is changed. Still not hammering it like a little car, but then again maybe I am and just not feeling it due to the weight differences.....

I did swap out the air filter and it was cleaner than I expected for sure, like really clean. I haven't looked at the MAF yet, but no error codes/check engine lights. You'd expect that to trip, right?

Sounds like this is probably my reality. I'll need to do some more freeway driving, out of town and get away from the traffic/stop-n-go and see how it does. This might just be me overthinking it!

Really appreciate all of the comments!

    Two things I never do:
look at my 401K after market crash
    My 4Runner MPG ;)
Why look at things that will make you sad? I seriously do not know or care what my MPG is.

There is so much value in this statement for sure! Unfortunately I've looked at both.... definitely a mistake!

I have a 22 4Runner TRD PRO, no engine mods, Westcott Designs Rock Sliders, around 20 MPG Highway, keeping it around 70MPH. I've noticed if I go faster than my MPGs go down.

When I got my ORP, I was getting 16-17mpg bone stock. My normal driving trips are within a 10 mile range of local roads and traffic though, so my trips rarely last longer than 30min.

After putting on a Prinsu Rack and RSG sliders (everything else still stock), I'm now down to 12-13mpg. It was expected though, and I don't drive much for it to really matter I guess. Around 10 months into ownership and I only just hit 4000mi on the odometer.

Summer is almost here and we'll see what longer trips and off-roading does.

Here is my Fuelly App history. 2022 TRD Pro, no mechanical mods at all (just cosmetic), but also NO lift and stock tires.

This is after 17 months and 51K miles. Lots of varied driving conditions. 4WD in off-road conditions occasionally, a good deal of sitting and idling for warm ups during the winter. But also a great deal of highway driving, as well, so I think this is a decent average.

I'm nowhere near the 2000 mile experiment I was planning, but looking at it after about 700 miles (post-mod), it looks like I'm going to average closer to 16.5.
I've had tanks where the computer showed me over 18mpg since the mods, but none around 20 like I used to see once in a while before the mods... Which got me thinking about the actual cost of the decreased fuel economy.

So- The pre-mod math looks like:

    20,000 miles per year
divided by 19mpg (I didn't average this good, but lets use the worst case scenario)
    is 1053 gallons of fuel
    At $3.50 per gallon

    Total cost $3685.5

    The post-mod math looks like

    20,000 miles per year
    16.5mpg
    1212 gallons of fuel
    $3.50 per gallon

    Total cost $4242.42

The difference is $556.92 per year based on 20,000 miles and $3.50 per gallon of fuel assuming 19mpg (I don't think you can average 19, but (literally) YMMV).
If you use a more realistic 18mpg pre-mod and 16.5mpg post-mod, the difference becomes less... $486.12

Driving a vehicle you enjoy is worth the difference to me, but it might not be for others.

    ***edit***
One other thing I did for grins is math out the savings for buying a 45mpg car to "save money". The total savings (fuel cost only) is $2686.87.
In my opinion, when you add in taxes, insurance, the initial cost and depreciation, there is no way you can pencil out buying a car to "save money" unless you're driving A LOT of miles!

Here's some stats on my 2021 Venture I got in December of last year. All tanks up until the most recent one were with the stock Yakima roof basket. I work from home so this vehicle is purely used around town and sometimes taken on 1+hr highway drives - although not often. I think I drive with a pretty light foot but my average MPH is very low considering my lack of a highway commute.

17.111mpg average (although seeing high-18s avg since removal of basket)

This is the app called Fuelly. I've used it for the last 5 or so years to track all maintenance and fill-ups from various cars I've owned. "Charts" is just a section within the application.

During the lockdowns, I was getting 23-24 mpg on stock size SL Wildpeaks. No bullshit. But, there was no traffic on the highways, and I was driving almost all highway miles at 65-70 mph (I was on the clock AND getting allowance, so I was milking that shit for all I could get). Now, with a lift, sliders, skids, 285s, and almost no highway miles, I’m at 17ish and I’m good with it.

Makes me wonder how much fuel could be saved if they would just time the damn stoplights!
