I am making a final choice between Gobi and Voyager for my roof rack. Plenty of info on Gobi on the forums, very little on Voyager. The Voyager rack is a low profile, welded “basket” style with option of steel mesh flooring. Most of the info on line is from the Land Rover world. What I like about the rack is the look, although pretty basic, it is functional with the ability to put 48” wide items such as plywood in the basket. Also, they are “local” for me. Concern is no reviews from 4 runner owners. If there are any on the forum, give me your input, either in this thread or via PM. - Thanks

I would avoid gobi. They’ve been plagued with horrendous lead times and shit customer service.

Are Gobi racks still a 6-month turnaround?

I’ve heard many horror stories about lead time for Gobi, however it seems like they’ve been trying to turn that around once they figured out the post Covid craziness.

I received my rack 2 months after I placed my order and got the “free” duffel bag that I really like. Also they didn’t charge my credit card until the shipment was processed. Personally I’ve had a great experience. That was summer 22. I know it was really bad before that.
Here’s a pic of the rack (I have a stealth, no rise)

No experience with Voyager. Looks similar to my mesh floor Bajarack. Maybe slightly smaller tube steel and a little lower to roof.

The Gobi just looks so much better, the voyager reminds me of the baja rack which looks off imo. It just sits to high above the roof and looks odd.

Thanks for the input. Looks like no one has the Voyager. One of my concerns, is it the Voyager is substantially heavier than the Gobi, about 105 lbs with expanded Mesh vs 70 lbs for the Gobi. Without the mesh, it is 5lbs lighter than the Gobi. It is all Galvanized, but I assume Gobi is also or folks would be complaining about rust. Since I am in Florida, I am biased towards galvanized.

I notice the Baja rack is lighter weight also. I assume the Voyager must use either thicker walled tubing or heavier mesh.

I’m liking this Voyager rack. I’m a fan of tubular racks to begin with, and so have had my eye on the Gobi. But I want to carry an OzTent, and it’s just a little too long to sit inside the rails of the Gobi. The open back of the Voyager would solve that problem.

Well, I think I will take the road less travelled and order the Voyager. I will report back on the process and provide some photo’s on installation and the finished product along with initial impressions. Lead time is 5-6 weeks.

Good luck on the project. I am assuming the install of brackets into factory roof holes is consistent across all brands. I have heard the process is very important slowly unscrewing the factory bolts small turns as to not risk the plate slipping into roof.

I ended out ordering a Gobi Rack on August 16th. It shipped from Gobi on Sept 26th. I got the call today from the Local Carrier to arrange delivery. So real life lead time was about 6 weeks order to shipment. It took 9 days to get to Florida. Will post in a new thread when installed.

Looks sharp. Are you strapping gear down or bolted to rack from bottom?

Only staged for position. Traction boards have mounts. Canopy is Bungeed item. Apache case, (Recovery Gear), will be removable, final attachment method TBD. It is a daily driver so rack will be empty most of the time.
