    Hey everyone!
    New 4runner owner of a 02’ 4x4 Sport Edition!
So far I’ve done a bunch of preventive Maintenance. Such as oil change, power steering, new Radiator, lower ball joints, and I just got the very pricy but I believe was worth it, Icon Stage 5 lift kit. Only thing is now investing time and money on this 4runner, I noticed a bit of rust on the passenger side frame (I’ll post a picture), I cleaned off the surface rust around the rest of the frame and everything else looks good! I welded a steel plate over the hole, now I believe the frame is good! But my fiancé thinks overwise :(
My question is if I take it a Toyota Dealership, will they tell me the frame is unsafe due to the patch weld??? My fiancé wants me to sell the 4runner because she thinks it’s unsafe, but I know the frame is good. My fiancé wants to have a Toyota dealership mechanic check it out to see if the frame is okay. Will the dealer say anything about the patch weld?? My 4runner ownership depends on it!! Thank you for your help! (First pic is before, 2 others are after the weld)

Hate to break the bad news to you. That frame is done. What you’re doing is just “welding” a piece of metal to rust.

Welcome. Yeah gonna agree the frame is not like a fender, just cutting out the rust and welding a new piece. I'm sorry man, gonna agree with your fiance and sell it for the endless pit of money aspect to fix rust on frame. Unsafe welding it? Not necessarily but you're not helping it either, as mentioned you're just welding it to the rust falling off.

Welcome from Arizona. That rusty spot may be indicative of other hidden frame rust. Sorry to add to the bad news.

Welcome from the center of the bourbon universe. I'm going to agree with all the above. That much rust is way past the point of repair.
