Reasons for running 17" wheels?

New to the forum and just got my first runner. Traded my Tacoma and I think I’m gonna be pretty happy. Let the mods begin! I’ve noticed a lot of folks running 17” wheels even after lifting etc. just curious if this more of a personal preference, more cost effective for tires, better for running at lower pressure? Any thoughts on going with 18” wheels?

 

17 inch rims work better on the truck on fitment. Also tires are cheaper and easier to get. Some people who have limiteds and keep 18in rims have difficulties finding tires. It is not impossible, but not ideal.

 

I thought the limiteds were 20" stock

 

Could be i know the tundra has 18 and putting tires of the size was an issue

 

Limited has 20” wheels. All other 5th gen 4Runners have 17. The wheel must be at least 17” to clear the brake calipers.

 

I'm old school, I like the look of more tire than wheel. I remember putting 38" Gumbo Monster Mudders on my 1976 F250 HiBoy with 16.5 inch wheels. Too cool.

 

I like the 20" rims

 

I run 17" wheels due to tire availability.

 

has anyone had any issues running 9" wide wheels? just wondering if itd be better to go with 8.5 or 9.
