    Well, that makes two of us.

    I definitely understand why some folks love the 1GR's reputation for longevity. But, that's really the only appeal it has over the incoming turbo 4. 300+ LB/FT of torque, below 2,000 RPM's sounds fucking great to me!

    I'm going to have to go drive one of the new Tacos once they hit the dealerships.

    Technically speaking, an engine and a motor ;) since that comment was for the hybrid.

    I’m kinda surprised the leaf spring suspension will still be used for the SR5.

    aluminum body panels make me cring a bit, but built in roof mounts, front swaybar disconnects, highlift jackpoints? Wow, seems like they were really trying to cover based!

    It also looks nice in any of those trim levels pictured. The white one (pro?) looks a little too much even.

    i don't like the Trailhunter trim whatsoever, but I'm sure plenty of people will eat it up.

    I’m of the same opinion with this as the new tundra: I think it’s ugly, but I bet that’ll change with Offroad bumpers, lift, tires, etc :D

    Why do you assume it's about the hybrid? The turbo 4 is going to have way more pulling power than the 1GR on its own.

    This is yet another rendering of the 6th gen 4Runner; however, this rendering was done by CarBuzz.....who predicted almost exactly what the new Tacoma would look like. Let's see how close they get with this one.

    if 6th gen looks like this, I think personally its a backward step. You have a great design in 5th gen, and tundra and tacoma are just too ugly. If 4R goes that way...it wont be pretty anymore :(

    there was a ton of reading material, but somewhere in that link it mentioned the 4 percent grade without shifting was in relation to the hybrid version.

    This one is not so bad. Looks a little shorter? It’s got a little bit of FJ going on in the back.

    Some of the top trims on the new tacoma look a little bit too much, too garish, But, toyota really seems to really have thought about utility, among them, a 2400w inverter. Thats cool!

    If they apply the same philosophy to the 4runner, this might turn out Ok. What I like about the tacoma trims, is the lower trim models look almost nicer than the cartoonish Pro and trailhunter versions. I can almost imagine that styling to age fairly well.

    Oh, I didn't see that.

    I assume it's going to be a significant Improvement even with the non-hybrid version. The hybrid will surely be out of my price range, if I were to decide to trade mine in.

    My initial reaction was "hey, that's not so bad, kinda cool and tough looking", but the longer I look at it, I don't love it.

    First of all, it has a MONSTER blind spot. What happened to the rear window, (not the rear hatch window)?

    Secondly, it looks more like "other" SUV's than it looks like itself, aka a 4Runner. Think 1 part Cherokee, 1 part Bronco, 1 part FJ Cruiser (as was mentioned already), and 1 part '90's Dodge Durango. I'm not saying it's ugly, but I am saying that the potential is there to make something excellent and still maintain a true 4Runner identity, but this rendering falls short.

    The question then becomes, would I buy one?
    Answer....yeah probably. I just love me some 4Runners.

    I think at some point we're just going to have to accept a more streamlined 4Runner. A cube is not very aerodynamic, and fuel economy is such a huge factor these days.

    It's hard to judge from that picture, for me. But, it almost looks more like the FJ Cruiser in the rear section. Maybe it will look good in person.

    If the FJ was coming back, I would expect it to look like that. But that is not a 4Runner without the back glass. I highly doubt that Toyota would do such a radically different design.

    I completely agree with the sentiments above.

    It reminds me of a crossover.

    I hate that there is no window aft of the C-pillar. The whole thing looks too short.

    I do really like everything forward of the rear wheels however. I'd be down if the front end looked like that.

    A 2.4 turbo engine with higher power at low RPM?. I have to see that to believe it. Turbo engines needs higher RPM.

    I do like it, but I sure hope they’re wrong about the back. I want it to keep that trademark 4R squareness in the rear. That will all but guarantee they keep the roll down rear window :D

    Turbo engines that are tuned for maximum peak horsepower need high RPMs. Turbo engines that are tuned for torque and mid-range power do not.

    It makes peak torque at 1700 RPMs in the Highlander. So, a huge increase in usable power.

    I might be pessimistic but I’m looking forward to seeing what the initial quality of fit and finish (or lack there of) on the new Tacoma will be like and what problems these engines may have once they get out and used by public.

    hopefully this will make the first year 6th gen 4Runner have a smoother glitch free roll out. Tacoma the Guinea pig

    This would be awesome!

    I don't hate automatics like I did when I was young, but I would really love to see a manual option back in the 4Runner. It could be the deciding factor for me between keeping my '19 forever (as planned), or trading in for a 6th gen.

    The 2.4L turbo has been used in the Lexus NX for a couple years already. It's also in the Crown, the Highlander, the Lexus RX, and will be in the Grand Highlander and Tacoma.

    Toyota seems pretty confident in it.

    I'm not optimistic when it comes to a manual.

    The problem with CarBuzz is they seem to think the new 4Runner is coming out this year as a 2024 model year.

    I haven't seen any reliable info that corroborates that yet. I wonder if they know something or if they're just guessing.

    A mutual acquaintance of ours on another forum (******-*******.org) still believes the 4Runner SOP is Summer 2024. Now, could that slip into the fall or winter of 2024, that is the golden question. Either way, I think it is clear, we are looking at a minimum of a 2025 4Runner with the outside chance it becomes a 2026 4Runner.

    So, in other words, CarrBuzz wants to keep clicks and eyeballs on their website, if they all of a sudden admit to the slip, perhaps they are concerned it will reduce their 6th gen 4Runner traffic.

    As they say, stay tuned for when the FunRunner actually shows up.
