The gross vehicle weight. Over 6,000 lbs is very important for the USA market.

Ahh, gotcha. Yeah, I don't see any reason for them to go lower on GVWR.

This is how I feel about my 4Runner. I know it's not quite as bad as the taco, but I still find it irritating and frustrating. There's a bridge over a body of water that I cross on the way to work, and there's a hill on the other side of it. The other day I counted five transmission shifts between the upshifts and down shifts to get over this bridge & up the hill.

Those are such a scam! They basically encourage you to run red lights, because whenever you brake remotely hard, it triggers a hard braking incident, which they interpret as driving too aggressively, which dings you. I drive like a grandma, and I still got dinged has an aggressive driver by using the one from progressive for a short time.

I work in cyber security, so know *exactly* how telemetry data is used - and misused. No thanks. If someone wants to turn it on, go for it. But collection and transmission needs to be opt-in, not opt out.

That's my beef with all the nanny features...not only are they on by default, but in many cases, they can't be turned off.

The number I found was 121,023 for 2022 and 144,696 for 2021, 129,052 for 2020, 131,864 for 2019. Not exactly a downward trend over "the last few years", pretty consistent actually. How many dealers have 4runners on the lot? None around me. Every single 4runner is sold before it is even allocated. My deposit was placed in mid-october and it should be here this week (and I was not picky, TRD ORP did not care what color did not care moonroof or not). I guess that was not entirely true, I found a couple on the lot 5 hours away back in October...they wanted $5k over MSRP for them though, were they not being greedy dealers, they'd have likely been sold sooner and thus not available when I checked.

I think you're going to see a drop in demand for a lot of things due to interest rates being double what they were a year ago...

I have seen a few 4Rs on the lots near me just a few. I agree with interest rates and more folks getting laid off I think things will slow down.

Toyota should partner with and bring the Suzuki Jimmy here that would be interesting.

The Suzuki Samurai (the old US name for the Jimny) was actually one of the vehicles I wanted to look at before I found out it hadn't been sold in the US since 1995. This was in 2020.

Living in Hawaii where 4Runners are literally everywhere including being often used by police, I have heard similar things that the OP stated. God I hope it’s wrong.

Just last night I spoke to someone who works at Toyota on the dealer level who reinforced Toyota’s apathy in Japan pertaining to the 4Runner. At least here, folks from Toyota Japan do interface on the dealer level.

While there is certainly legit brand equity in the nameplate, a few year absence followed by an electrified butched up crossover is not beyond the realm of possibility.

In 2012 The dealership told how lucky I was to have purchased my 2011 when I did. When I said "Oh, why is that?" they told me that 4runner production was ending and 2012 was probably the last year.....

Rumors designed to do nothing more than to spark fools into jumping at the first thing they can get their hands on.

I admit it was pretty comical. In 2011, right after I got my t4r, the earthquake hit followed by the Tsunami. Production was slowed for awhile and sales numbers where lower in 2011 than the previous year. It's all a sales gimmick. Sales are 3x higher now than in 2011, but because they sold less in 2022 than 2021 it's the end of the line. Never mind the reasons why the lower sales. (covid, parts shortages, etc) It must be because no ones buying them.....

They can't even ship a 4runner with 2 freaking fobs, But it must be because it's the end of the road. What a crock.

    This is funny...

When I started looking in late 2018, I was going to wait until the 2020s came out because I thought they were going to redesign them then, lol! Good thing I didn't wait!

That’s the thing, the roads are something else on Hawaii island anyway. About the only road you can really get moving is on the saddle road which even then is primarily only 2 lane with passing lanes.
Highest speed limit on this island is 60 and usually am stoked to go 60 with all the traffic between Kohala and Kona. The laser cruise is a godsend here which I never used in California.

Add in all of the rocks and there is a reason they are almost like a Crown Vic here. Many of the best beach spots require hitting the rocks.

Unfortunately, start-stop is pretty much required (I was surprised the 4runner doesnt have it, my gf's Forester does and it's annoying AF). As for the Bronco, it can be disabled. At least 1 company sells a wiring harness to do so. Probably can be turned off in forscan too...

I share this sentiment but wouldn't necessarily put it that way.
If its between moving production out of Tahara and stopping 4Runner all together, I'd choose the later.
4Runner badge means something. I hope Toyota does not change that. If they can not make this vehicle with same quality they ought to not make it at all.
And I will gladly drive my new 5th gen till they take my keys away due to old age!

I think the 4Runner will transform to compete with the Wrangler and Bronco. A Land Cruiser, based off the Lexus GX 460, will be introduced to fill in the where the current 4Runner is.

The Landcruiser Prado literally is a GX. And, word around the campfire is that the next generation is being brought to the states.

There's talk about the 4Runner being a bit smaller, but not much. Hopefully they make it more off-road oriented than it already is.

    ***UPDATE***

I'm happy to announce that after speaking with our Toyota reps that we will see an all new 4Runner, it will NOT be in 2024 as they have confirmed this is a Carry-Over model year and the star of 2024 will be the All new Tacoma.

Fingers crossed that it will be out in 2025 and I have no doubt Toyota is setting its sight to be King of the Hill.

I used this in my Crosstrek to disable the start-stop... should work in the Forester also.
