Looking to upgrade my exhaust for two reasons, there’s a small leak, and I want a better sound/performance. Having a hard time deciding between Magnaflow Overland series or Gibson Elite black series. Thoughts? Recommendations? this is my first Toyota, so looking for some guidance

How does it sound? Louder/aggressive than original?

Yes, you can actually tell there is a V8 under the hood now. I also have the Dough Thorley Y-pipe but I'm not sure those are available any longer. Highly recommend having the factory Y replaced with something better flowing. It makes a huge difference with a small bump in performance and also a bump in gas mileage. Magnaflow makes a very nice Y tube that you could have a muffler shop install for you. The Bold cat back is a DIY install otherwise.

This is the factory y-pipe. It's welded to the front of the 3rd cat on the V8 4runners. If you aren't in CA, the cat can and probably should be removed. You could probably get away with it in CA anyhow since removing the cat doesn't produce any CEL or O2 codes as it's after the sensors. The primary catalytic converters are actually a part of the exhaust manifolds.

You can see just how restrictive the factory y is. It's 2" pipe, crushed flat on one side so that they fit next to each other in about a 2.5" space. Major flow restriction.

Compare that to the Dough Thorley y and you can really see the difference. Much freer flowing which frees up some performance and gas mileage.

Hay how much did all that cost I'm thinking of doing the same. And removing the resonator at the back for more noise!

DT short tube headers run just north of $1k, exhaust system depends on your preference and if it’s just pipes/cat back system/mufffler etc bit around $700. This doesn’t include labor which would be substantial.

Yikes I need a second job! But it's about what I figured. I want to do a less restrictive air intake too
