A salesman once told me, rather condescendingly, that a woman buys a car for the color and that men buy them based on features. :notsure:

Some salespeople make big mistakes. When I was kid my Grandfather was a carpenter and wore the old school overalls that got ripped and dirty etal. He did some work at a high end Buick dealership in a ritzy suburb of Detroit. He admired a new car going into the showroom one day as he worked on site doing carpentry for the dealer. He attempted to ask the salesman about the car and the salesman replied sir you don’t have the money or style to own this new Buick.

A few weeks later my Grandfather bought a new Buick just like the one he saw at another dealer and took me for a ride to this Buick dealer where the salesman mistreated him. We went inside and he asked the salesman to step outside and proceeded to show him his new Buick.

He said young man you should learn a lesson not to judge people by how they dress and what they do for a living. He said I would have bought this car from you a week ago but you thought I was a bum. He said I bought this car 20 miles away from another dealer and paid cash and still have some left over as he pulled more cash from his pocket. Then we got in the car and left.

Good lesson and I still think of that story each time I go into a dealer. Rest in peace Grandpa!

I heart my NBM 4Runner but it doesn't stay clean for long, absorbs more heat from the sun and shows more imperfections (rock chips, bird poop, scratches, etc.).

They still train salespeople to size up the customer when they walk in the door. :D
I was just having some fun since there are mostly men on here and threads and threads about everyone’s favorite colors! ;)

One-at-this-price stripper. Bought new 34 yrs ago, a $13K leftover. Added Detroit TruTrac, 1”rear spring spacer and “pinstripes”… Factory AC kit and roof rack bought at dealer cost at time of purchase, still blows ice cold 32yrs later. 2022 AG ORP all stock.
I drove my scratched up and dented 32yr old 4R to the dealer to buy a ORP on the way to Home Depot to pick up more paint and had my totally hammered painting clothing on.
The salesman looked at me cross-eyed and asked me how much I had for a down payment, I told him I will be paying cash very much to his surprise.

This is a can’t lose scenario. Personally, I really have been digging on Classic Silver for a few years. Living in the land of 4Runners, I will say that I see less silver ones than blue.

MGM’s are everywhere, myself included, and I took my friend to buy a new Tacoma yesterday and she ended up buying a MGM SR5 base.

There are lots of dark vehicles up here in MT. And they all look like crap during the rainy, snowy, icy, salty and thawing mud season.
But we still wanted and waited for a Nauti/Blue to buy when we still lived in SoCal. And people do seem to think that light colors don't get as dirty but they're wrong. And I've noticed that the local LEO's pull over more than a fair share of light colored vehicles just to tell them to at least clean off their tail lights and license plates.
The drivers with dark colored vehicles generally notice this and clean off the lights and plate before they leave their homes.

And especially for the Patrol vehicles that do freeway duty. After a long day on our roads, their service crews hit those cruisers with the pressure washer.

I remember about 7 years ago I walked into a local Lexus dealership dressed in my yard work clothes and dirty boots. Looked around the showroom for about 5 minutes with 3 salesmen just sitting or standing around. None said anything to me. Then finally a kid that looked around 18 or so came from the back desk and excitedly asked me “can I help you”. I will never forget the faces of the other salesmen that didn’t give me the time of day as I closed the cash deal on a new $80k+ 460L. It was the kids first sale. Will never forget his face either! Just got paid!!!
I have never had as much joy and satisfaction in a dealership as I did that day!
