What are you guys going to when you need a new muffler but don't want another stock one? Looking for as close to factory as possible with maybe just a bit more rumble. I do not intend to change out the headers, cats or tail pipe, just the muffler itself.

I have a 2015 SR5. I installed a TRD Pro exhaust just for a little more rumble as you mentioned.

Tanabe Medallion recently released a new exhaust for 5th gen 4Runners. It seems to have a nice sound to it and not too obnoxious. I'm thinking of upgrading to that in the future.

Careful of the TRD and droning. It can get old quick.

i enjoy a fine exhaust note as much as the next guy but the 4Runner exhaust sound is something you don't want to purposely "enhance".

In hindsight I would have to agree, it's better left alone. I'll probably source another OE muffler and call it a day.

I can confirm the TRD Pro Bro exhaust droned too much. Of course we all have different tastes and tolerances so I purchased anyway to give it a shot despite what others said about it and learned the hard way. Over $900 to buy, used for 3 weeks and I got $700 for it. Everyone only wanted to buy it for like $100.

I will try the Magnaflow high tuck at some point.

Tundra and 4Runner exhaust is NOT even comparable, I have both. tried a few mufflers and a TRD on the 4Runner and HATED every minute driving it because of drone. Ended up buying a factory take off( I cut mine apart when removing)to replace the other failed attempt at sound. The Tundra remains stock because of long highway trips and the 4Runner fiasco has made me gun shy on messing with the Tundra. With that being said IF I were to do the Tundra it will get a Dirty Deeds exhaust, probably the 10" version.

It's a two part problem: (1) it's an automatic, so under normal driving you're looking at idle to maybe 2,500 rpm or so; and (2) it's a V6 so it already going to sound like a busted weedeater. Combine the two and it's not good.

I have a buddy that owns a muffler shop and he let me tried several "prototype" samples he gets....and I got the chance to try the AfE, Gibson, MagnaBlow, and I couldn't take any of them as well as the Pro. I got so sick and tired of the damn drone that the OEM is just heaven for me now. I think in order to get a decent system you really need spend some major $$ and it isn't worth it.

I try to be at least moderately productive. However, changing the muffler is not on my agenda, either.

i took a long drive on the freeway yesterday, today my focus is coming up with plan to get rid of the TRD exhaust...the drone made me hate my new 4 runner. i couldn't wait to get out of it. Open to any suggestions - i want to keep the side exit

I just got a Magnaflow muffler off their website and had a local shop weld it in. About $200 bucks later and I have an exhaust I'm quite happy with. Has small but noticeable exhaust note under full acceleration, nice deep tone under moderate. Zero noise at idle and cruising. I'm quite happy with it.

Stock. This engine sounds terrible with a loud exhaust.

If it was a V8 then that would be a different story

its funny - this is the first vehicle I've owned that didn't have a V8. I would rather have no exhaust sound at all than this noise

My first few vehicles were V8. With this engine, I don't want to hear it or even think about it.

V6 engines should be as quiet as possible, otherwise they sound like a constipated grandma moaning on the toilet.
