Apologies if this has been answered. I looked through some threads and didn't see it specifically answered and my background is cars. This is my first 4wd and I have a few questions. Given I'm on stock height and will probably go with stock sized tires for my first set up, should I expect rubbing with this size and offset? Would there be any concerns when I do lift and upsize the tire? Also when going off road is it more desirable to have a narrower wheel or is that only certain conditions? Thanks for humoring this 4wd nube

I had 17×9, -6 offset wheels and stock size tires for awhile. They tires would just barely rub the mudflaps when turning and braking. You might be clear at 0 offset, but if it rubs it should be very minor (can probably fix with minor trimming or even a heat gun to reshape the plastic).

Yes, having a narrower wheel (within spec) is said to be ideal to minimize the odds of popping off the bead. But, if you're going to a 285, the 9" wheels should be fine. If you're going to go with skinnies, I might look for a narrower wheel.

Thank you for the response. I found some wheels I like but are only available in that size. I may just stick with picking up the bronze trd wheels to make things easier for a while.

I think there are some TRD replica wheels available, if you want a wider wheel while keeping the OEM style.
