2001 SR5 automatic. Recently had a loud knocking while in gear at idle stopped at a stop light, or at low rpm in reverse. After research, I was convinced it was the flex plate. Turned out to be the exhaust banging around at low rpm only in drive only. The rear exhaust mount had rusted out and the exhaust was banging around. The sound would disappear when I would drive at higher rpm. Posting to make a record of this information for others. I greatly appreciate this site for all the information and ability to research problems.
