    Hey Folks

I have to change transfer case oil and front diff for my 2018 Limited.

Does the truck need to be level from a drail/fill perspective?

I have ramps and car jacks but should I use because it wont be level?

The side running boards are too low and I'm too fat so I cant reach under.

    Thanks in advance!

Yes that maintenance is performed when the vehicle is level, but how do you know it won't be level? Are you sure the jack stands set to their highest won't get it close enough?

I'm planning the same in the next few thousand miles and I have the same 2 ramps and 2 stands to do it with. You may be right though, we're both gonna possibly have to buy 2 more stands.

Yeah I dont want to put the whole truck up in the air. I might have to either remove the side runners or take it to a shop.

I always drive onto the ramps then jack up the rear from the diff and throw a couple of stands under the rearend. I mostly do this because I can't fit underneath to get to the transfer case. I think you would be fine not jacking up the rear.

I live in an apartment and have street parking. I drove the passenger side up on the curb, and had the driver's side up on ramps. Was pretty level that way, with ample room underneath. I did the t-case and both diffs.

It might be worth investing in a second set of ramps for this purpose.

If not, I'd jack up the rear to make it level.

Putting it into 4Hi should solve that. Front wheels will be in park while the rear is lifted.

The front wheels are in the cradle of the ramps and my driveway is gravel so the jack will not move.

I use the 4 ramps method. It should be level, or as close as you can get it.

I really don't know for sure. If there's any, I can't imagine it being enough for the vehicle to move any significant amount.

Yeah, my ramps are the same. I think even if left in neutral it wouldn't be able to roll off then without help.

I’d throw a set of stands under the front as well. It’s possible for ramps to collapse. Better yet, drive up on some 2x14 boards under each wheel. Might give enough room to slide underneath to drain the the case.

An inexpensive option is to rent an equiped garage bay with hoist for an hour or two and give the whole underside some attention. Some rental bays are set up for diy washing and installing antirust treatments.
