Homelink and garage doors not syncing

Any one else have issues? I have a liftmaster 8355W and a 23 ORP. I've used the homelink app, the toyota instructions, and various youtube videos. I cannot get it to connect at all. I reset the garage and reprogrammed my other car so I know it works. The 4runner just blinks yellow and never syncs. I have a spare opener but its aggravating to get a 50k+ truck and have to use a $7 Amazon clicker. Any special tips?

I can't help you other than telling you that mine works without issue on both liftmaster and chamberlain so it SHOULD work.

You need to first set the opener to rolling code mode. I believe that still might be a thing.

Another thought, how are you programming? The Runner to the opener or the opener to the Runner?

I had a hard time with mine too. The instructions are correct but you have to find the sweet spot of the remote to overhead homelink. I actually don't remember where the sweet spot was. Either closer to the windshield or the dome light. You're gonna have to play with it.

Yeah, I recently sync'd my '22 ORP. At first it would not program. In my case I just needed to hold the remote garage door opener very close to the button in the truck.

I have a brand new 2023 SR5P and I had the same issue. I was trying to do the sync with the vehicle running. Apparently you have to do it in accessory mode. When I just was in ACC mode and used the transmitter it worked.

Also, using the "learn" button on the garage door motor never worked, even in ACC.

You would think Toyota would be better at this...

Yeah thats the method I tried first. syncing with a clicker. I had it right next to the homelink button. Maybe to close I guess. Also tried with learn button on the opener, no good. Tried with car running and off. Ill try with accessory mode again. This is frustrating as hell

On my '20 I did not use the remote at all. Programming was only between the truck and the opener in the garage. I used these instructions:

    HomeLink

I used the homelink link first. Plugged in my model number and follow directions exactly. No bueno. This shouldn't be frustrating me as much as it is.

I had to put my genie opener in learning mode then hold down the homelink and genie opener at the same time.

I can only assume that the homelink was learning the frequencies and pairing at the same time. Was weird and nothing like i found anywhere online.

I had the same problem. Had to hold the remote next to the buttons to synch.

One-at-this-price stripper. Bought new 34 yrs ago, a $13K leftover. Added Detroit TruTrac, 1”rear spring spacer and “pinstripes”… Factory AC kit and roof rack bought at dealer cost at time of purchase, still blows ice cold 32yrs later. 2022 AG ORP all stock.
Wow, I guess I was lucky…..I was dreading programming my garage doors and gate but it went smooth as silk. I even was able to link to my Ghost gate opener on the first try, the 4R setup even has longer range than the standard remotes.

I had problems too with my 23' then I saw the instructions in the book on how to clear old codes. I did that then it programmed just fine.

I know. It’s great. I can press the button when I’m way down the block and the gate will be open when I get there.

I followed the directions and couldn’t get mine to program. I tried three different sessions and could never get it to sync. I actually got made fun of a bit for having the garage door remote for so long, because I couldn’t figure it out. Finally, I started trying random things that weren’t in the instructions. I’m not near them now, but I had to press the button either once more or once less than the directions advised. I was able to program all three buttons on the first try after that. I remember being incredibly frustrated.

Still has never worked for me. Inspired by these posts I just tried all these methods (video, no remote, everything). I’ve had it over a year and every time I pull out the remote to open the garage, I cry a little. Hopefully someone with luck posts something that works, but I’ll probably die with a garage door in my hand.

OP I feel your pain. I have given over 3 hours of my life, I bet, to trying to get my opener programmed. If someone posted a tip, I followed it. If a video existed, I watched it. I read the manual like 16 times. I went to Homelink's site and read their instructions 142 times.

    And still fucking nothing.

I absolutely cannot get mine to take (Liftmasters, 2 of them).

What is maddening is that my wife's Outback with the SAME FUCKING SYSTEM she got to take in like 3 seconds. Even more annoying, while I was fiddlefucking with my remote I somehow managed to deprogram all the remotes except somehow for her Homelink system which just reset itself somehow to the new code with no intervention needed on her part.

At this point I am done with trying to program the fuckers to the 4R.

I am just using a regular remote, like a plebian. I did disassemble it and hide it in the visor though so I guess that's kind of cool...?

I'm surprised how many having issues with the garage door opener where many comment that it works, even on BMW. I wonder what's missing with those who were not able to program. May be uncommon garage door opener?:notsure:

I've had the same issues, followed the steps in 4Runner manual, Homelink, etc and nothing seemed to work. I tried this approach https://youtu.be/Tv0FG43gcx0 (video in this thread from April) and it worked for me.

His steps are different than Toyota manual and what Homelink recommends, but I'll be darned...his method worked!!!

    Let's see if it lasts...

It took me multiple attempts, but I finally did it. I knew it could be done. There is no way I was going to admit defeat and give up on something that so many others before me had accomplished.

I had a similar issue with my Genie. The website essentially defined two processes. If you get through the first one and it still doesn't work, you go to Phase 2. My interpretation is that the Homelink learns from your remote, but that learned signal doesn't work by itself. You have to put the garage door opener in learning mode to get it to accept the Homelink. I was afraid after that worked, it wouldn't accept the regular remote anymore, but it did.

It took most of an hour to get it going. Now I can go back and reprogram the Homelink on my wife's Subaru, since that pairing failed after doing just the first process.

By the way, my hypothesis is that what the Homelink learned from the remote lacked some kind of preamble synchronization, so what it was transmitting was a shifted (perhaps circularly shifted) version of the desired signal. The second phase (garage door opener learning) gets the opener to accept that shifted version. Somehow it still accepts the one from the original remote, so it's able to resolve the shift, but not accepting a copied signal without learning is probably a security feature.
