I have a 2019 4runner. Its been flawless. 70k miles. All services up to date to include very recent fuel pump recall replacement. No CEL.
Yesterday it would not start. Would crank but not start. I let it set for thirty minutes or so (as I gathered my OBD scanner) and then tried again. It fired up but immediately died then would just crank again. Three times it would start though then immediately die. Finally I was able to get it back to my garage.

I pulled the MAF plug and still wouldnt start. Older generations would typically start once you unplugged a faulty MAF (albeit often with a CEL). Cleaned and re installed MAF and since then it has been starting and running fine. Based on the fact I have no CEL and that it would. not start after unplugging the MAF (or with plugged in) I am not convinced it is the MAF. Thoughts?

My next GUESS is the fuel pump but truly guessing. While running DATA Mapping it showed no issues or aberrance.

What would you all suggest as far as diagnostics?

    Thank you.

How recently was the fuel pump replaced by Toyota?

Fuel pressure test would be my next step but you'd have to catch it when it's acting up. Fuel pumps seldom set fault codes directly. Next time it acts up take the gas cap off and have someone turn the ignition to on and listen for the fuel pump to come on.

My 19 has been great and I also had the fuel pump recall replacement done. I am guessing the fuel pump.
