Hi, I'm Judy from Vermont, Simon's Mom on TW and owned two 2gen tacomas.
I've owned my 2013 TRD OR for over 10 years and am thing of switching to a 4runner. I do live in mtns, go into the woods, tow a snowmobile trailer. Not really needing a truck that much anymore and don't want current Toyota truck offerings. So that's why I'm here.
I was a pretty active member on TW for many years until I retired out to my cabin so anyway that's why I'm here. Thanks for having me.
If anyone switched from 2GEN to 4runner, I hope to hear about your experience and insight. Thanks!

@Simon's Mom - I had the same year Tacoma as you, and sold it for the 4Runner pretty much for the same reasons you are listing:

Sold my owned-since-new 2013 Tacoma TRD Off Road:

in 2019 to purchase my current 2019 4R TRD Off Road:

Two years after selling the '13 Taco, I got an itch to have a truck again. After having owned several 1st gen Tacomas in the past, all 4wd, which I didn't need on the truck, I picked up this '03 Tacoma Prerunner:

Great little truck, nice to have both again. :)

The 4Runner is miles ahead of the '13 Tacoma I had in quality and overall room/comfort/ride/capability.

I had a 2nd and 3rd gen, and now a 2022 4Runner. My 17 made me miss my 09, I’m happy with trading the 17 taco for my 22runner. Can you keep the taco and get a runner?

    done some stuff to it
    It's a toss up.
    I liked my 2nd gen tacos (05 & 15) better than my 4runner (2018). Wife likes 4R better.
4Runner rides a little better. Truck was more useful to me since i haul wood, mulch, other tools sometimes. 4Runner better for kids' stuff, groceries, etc.

Actually, i'll clarify that wife liked 4R better once i changed out suspension. It was too soft originally.

Welcome. I’m still over on Tacomaworld, since there is still a ‘15 DC OR in my driveway. I’m driving a ‘17 4Runner SR5 Premium RWD as my daily now. 100% on road. I’ve always liked them, and I have zero regrets on getting it.

Welcome to the forum from Wisconsin!

    I went from a 4th gen 4Runner to a 2nd gen Taco to a 5th gen 4Runner.

If you don't need the bed, I think the 4Runner is the obvious choice. The back seats are better, you have more secure storage, and the 4Runner seems slightly more refined than the Taco. It's also just as tough, and arguably better for off-roading.

You'll have no trouble towing the snowmobile(s), either.

Post pictures once you get one picked out. :D
