Looking for Recs for Rock Sliders (Update: Selected OEM)

I bought these because of this video.

I love my caliraised sliders. They also make an angle slider that you can get without the top plate. Would hug closer, no step. https://caliraisedled.com/products/2010-2021-4runner-trail-edition-bolt-on-rock-sliders

Do the Toyota oem rock rails attach to the body or the frame?

 

If you wont off-road much you have your pick of the litter.

if you gonna do serious off-roading and gonna clang and bang em on rocks consider getting the JEGS and have a local welder slap them om at a 5' tilt and rattle can them. $550 all-in.

 

They attach to the body, the floors of the body to be exact.

 

Actually, they attach to the frame. I think you might be thinking of the predator steps. The OEM rock rails attach to the frame, and they include all necessary hardware OP. Not sure why they also market a hardware kit.

 

I have Westcott Design Rock sliders. Super nice stuff.

 

I went with Cali Raised because I did not want the badging/branding of the RSG. I got 0 degree w/ kickout so my kids could get in and out of the back seat easily. The top plate with the grippy coating makes them quite usable as discrete side steps for the front passengers as well. Overall very happy with these.

Can you help clarify the OEM Rock Rail part # that bolts to frame? Ive seen rock rails similar to the pred ones you mentioned in fitment, see below:

Okay, I’ve done some quick research, and I’m not convinced they’re still available. Some sites say unavailable, some don’t. But it also looks like that could be due to a part number change recently.

K-Paul, I believe that the two bottom pictures are different products (even if they look alike). The “nerf bar” shows three supports between inner and outer tubes. The “rock rail” has 5, I believe.

 

Ok cool, im with you. Seems like that "slider" keeps popping up on facebook and people call it an OEM product. That's had me confused for the longest lol

 

So, I can’t speak to recent changes in the product line, but 6 months ago, PT228189190(1) got you the oem rock rails which mount to the frame.

I have KDSS and the brackets all slide right over and into place on the accumulator side as well.

 

I stand corrected, man at the price Olathe Toyota is selling those sliders, thats a great deal!

 

Thanks to everyone for your feedback. I ended up going this route and was able to get a 20% discount on shipping which was much appreciated. Once I get them and set them up on my 4R I will share how it went and my thoughts on these OEM rock rails.

I like them. I was going for minimalist for the first go around. If I end up really trashing them, I’ll probably go back with some really expensive ones. But I have a bad habit of going overboard where it’s not necessary, so thought I would prove to myself they were necessary (to me) before making the larger investment.

I’ve hit them a few times crawling and I have no complaints. They hold the weight of the vehicle well enough, at least in my non-hardcore scenarios. I also like that if something happens, and I’m stupid on a trail and accidentally ruin one, or (god forbid) I’m in a wreck on one side, I can replace just one side for $200 in a day or two, instead of having to wait another several weeks on another expensive pair.

 

Yep, thats why I went with the Jegs, it did not make sense to make to get a set of pretty sliders if I was going to be trashing them anyway.

You figure if you trash a slider at $200, its better than $2,000 at the body shop getting new doors and blending paint into your front fender and quarter panel. (if you trash both doors....)

 

Well said, and I am in a similar boat. I just want to have them in case I do something slightly stupid so I don't seriously damage the doors or frame. I think these will be a good fit for me considering I don't plan on doing any really difficult off-roading anytime soon.

These say they are for 2019-2022. But also says retrofit back to 2015. Will these fit a 2018 off-road premium with kdss?

 

All good questions. I do not have KDSS so I am not sure on that question. There was an option to put in your VIN when placing your order and I did so but I did not get any confirmation one way or the other as far as fit goes. Finally, I did buy the hardware kit option since it was only $7. I will post here how it goes when I get them.

 

The KDSS won’t be the issue. I’m not sure what would be different from between the 15-18 and 19-22 models that would require “retrofitting”. Maybe the frame rails aren’t pre-drilled/tapped, and so you need the hardware kit with special anchors?

 

There are holes in the frame rails for my 2018, maybe they have different spacing.

It’s the Rago Fabrication skid. I remember liking it for being low profile. It fits very tight to the tank.
