Im shopping around for a v8, and found one thats a pretty decent deal. 9k, 175k miles, clean carfax, no rust. The only downside i see to it is that its 2wd. Has anybody ever had one of these, and how was it to drive? Thanks

I have a 2004 V8 2WD and I love it, drives great, best vehicle I have ever owned...BUT that being said I don't go off road, drive on the beach or have to deal with snow/ice, so if you are going to do a lot of any of these I would rather have the 4WD.

Do you ever deal with fishtailing? Do you have to weight the back end down at all?

No I have never had any issues with fishtailing, I have even tried to get it to fishtail, but the traction control, etc. just won't let it even burn rubber, I do have a fair amount of weight in the back, mechanical tools, I don't drive any vehicle without having tools onboard, but even when I first got it and before loading my tools in the back I still couldn't get it to spin the tires, and that's not from lack of power and torque it just the way these T4Rs are designed to not lose traction, when you hit the gas hard it just GOES!!!

The 4.7 is a fantastic motor and if you're not planning on going off road then 2WD is the way to go. They weigh less (mine is 275 pounds lighter than its 4x4 counterpart and 400 pounds lighter than the full-time 4WD Limited.) So you'll have a lot less weight, fewer zerks to grease, no transfer case oil to change or front diff oil. No frozen or broken actuators. 2WD is the way to go.

Who cares? This never shows everything anyway.
A 2WD 4Runner is like watching Cinemax late at night. It gets the job done, but you know there's better stuff out there.

    None YET!
    Hello
My 2007 Limited 2wd works well for my DD. 4.7L in great when I haul the Harleys on the trailer across country (2800#). 4500# is the most I've hauled and at this weight id prefer brakes on the trailer for highway or mountain driving. When Im going rock climbing a dedicated 4wd is my choice. Understandably the expense is not an option for everyone. Happy hunting.
