At some point in the near future I'm going to take a multi-week cross-country trip with the wife and dog in the 4runner.
Giving some thought to things I may need to do or change. Shorter trips I've run my Thule Moab basket but that thing is like a giant wind sail.

If anyone has any suggestions about any aspects of this I'm all ears.
For reference probably heading to the Tetons for the better part of it.

Is this a random routing trip? I like to kind of plan gas stops, I think the site is called 'gas buddy', it kind of works, although we get off original routing sometimes, it kind of gives insight to avoid the price gougers.

What is your plan to sleep? Food storage?

In 2020, we drove from Maine to Cali and up the coast and back, but we pulled a popup camper and started with a plastic cargo carrier on the roof. Once we got to Denver, we ditched the cargo carrier (it was bouncing off the roof, no matter how I loaded it) and grabbed a basket and roofbag. Mpgs sucked, but so be it.
