First Time 4Runner owner here. Stock 2022 OffRoad. Planning 1-2 BC, Canada Forest Road Camping trips per month.

What are owners thoughts/opinions on priority list in upgrades/mods?

Currently my Phase I includes: WestCott Lift, SSC Rims, MickeyB All Terrain 285 Tires and RSG angled Rocksliders.

Phase II, Roofrack (researching brand/options now) and maybe some paint wrap for front of vehicle?

Will post pics after phase I is complete. Thanks

#1: basic recovery equipment. Not really a mod, but the most important thing for going off the beaten path.

After that: Tires, armor, suspension. A lot of times these all go together. But, the stock tires are junk. You can go pretty far in a stock truck with good tires.

Then, winch (if you're going to get a winch), roof racks, interior mods (sleeping platform, molle panels, etc), lighting.

This can be different for everyone, though. Your needs might vary depending on the type of terrain you're getting into, and the type of trips you take (day trips VS going off the grid for a week at a time).

Good luck with your build! Have fun, and post pictures!!! :)

The stock 4runner is very capable. So if would be to get capable tires and get them fitted. Then I'd get some basic recovery gear like stated above. Then skids/sliders etc.

But the fun part atleast for me was getting my stock 4r offroad, seeing what it could do and then make it do what I need/want it to do.

    1. A fire extinguisher, first aid kit, and a Zoleo/Inreach.
    2. A means to air down and back up.
    3. Remote camping on forest service roads. Get a feel for how much gear you bring. Drawers, fridge, etc add weight and factor into your suspension choices.
    4. All-Terrain tires.
    5. Easy wheeling to add a few pinstripes.
    6. Sliders and basic recovery gear.
    7. Moderate wheeling to add more pinstripes.
    8. Skid plates, winch, and the suspension to handle them.

The stock TRD OR wheels are fine for running 285s. They protect the valve stems more than most wheels.

If you're going to be in the woods for a few days at a time regularly, a fridge could be worth looking into, also. I haven't gotten one, yet, but they seem like a great addition.

Just trying to help you get rid of any money you might have left after the other mods. :D

    @Agoge Clash

If you get new tires, make sure you also get a matching spare if you’re going to be remote. Or at the very least a tire repair kit to plug holes

    Forest Roads. Camping.

I would reverse your phase 1 & 2. Maybe get a set of tougher tires and paint protection. Compressor and recovery gear. Then concentrate on the camping gear. Camping twice a month, I’d want to have enough gear to be comfortable.

Save the lift and armor for later.
