Almost a $3K oil change... (not really)

New England is definitely hard on vehicles, but Toyota really needs to step up their game as well. My Volvo is 6 years older than my 4Runner, and has WAY less corrosion. And this is with zero effort on my part.

Not that my 4R is bad, I think it actually looks good for ten years old. When I bought it the front skids were gone.... snapped bolts, of course. Drove like that for 2 years without issue.

I have seen videos of where surface shield makes the rust flake off. None of the Fluid film/Woolwax/Surface shield will cover up the rust, they all creep and get to those hard to reach places. I know a few folks over on TW that hold meets to get vehicles sprayed, well worth the time. I think it's great money to have someone do it, until I get the setup to do it I will continue to drive and pay someone to do it.

Which option did you go with? And if you don't mind, where did you have it done?

I have used Fluid film and Wool Wax on my previous tacoma, woolwaxed a previous 4runner, and this one has been surface shield (spring) and fluid filmed (fall) so far.

Currently, I have someone in Fryeburg Maine that has done my previous taco once, and my new runner last spring and fall.

Also, check out NH oil, there is a place in Concord, or just outside, that does NH oil. I had a local garage fluid film my 17 Tacoma once as well. Expect to pay at least 75 or so, but more like 150 at a business. Remove skid plates and spare tire, wash the underside really well prior to getting it done.
