Is flushing the oil from the engine suggested?

    Good day all,

What are your thoughts on using an engine flush treatment, such as Motor Medic, on the 5VZ-FE engine? We're about to purchase a 2001 4-Runner with 209K on the odo, and I'm wondering if an engine flush treatment would be a good idea?

Thanks in advance, and have a great day!

    Jonathan

After 1.5+ million miles across maybe 15 vehicles over 47 years of driving with zero engine failures, I'd say no. Better to change the oil a couple times within 2000 miles if you're really concerned and the current oil is black. My 2001 had 265k when I traded it years ago, and it didn't need a flush, either.

Flushing will make you feel better about having less carbon buildup in the engine. Other than that, I don't understand why you would do it.

Don't get me wrong, in your situation I'd totally do it too, but I'd be aware that it doesn't need it.

I'd also load up on a fuel additive with PEA.

Other more important things I'd do:
    Replace all fluids.
    Change spark plugs
    Air filters
    Oil change for differentials
    Brakes
Use an ozone generator inside cabin to clean smells/vents
    Replace wipers
    Clean carpets

Yeah. I run a hose from the top of the engine and let it rinse out every 100K miles.

Unfortunately I do not have the knowledge to help here (no relevancy) but want to keep the thread alive so someone who does can chime in.

Keep in mind it's Saint Patrick's day so I expect a certain level of tomfoolery on the forum - at least it's active.

You can run Mobil full synthetic for first oil change. Does a very good job. Could also cause a leak with bad seals. So beware.
