    Hi All,

I am new to 4Runners and am in the process of purchasing a used 2015 TRD Pro. The seller had an inspection done today which you can view the results in the link below. Is there anything I should be majorly concerned about? Also, upon purchasing it what maintenance would you recommend I have done immediately? I’m aware of all of the modifications. It has 113k miles on it and I would like to do what I can to make this one last as long as possible. Thanks in advance for everyone’s help.

Can't be bothered to clean it and as mentioned the fenders don't line up. I wouldn't buy a heavily modded offroad vehicle though.

He did say it will be detailed and cleaned before I arrive (he’s out of state), but I see what you’re saying about the fenders.

I assume its a below market price? For the right price I'd pick it up as a project/off-road beater. I would seriously consider not buying this thing if you're looking for a primary mode of transportation.

Pass. Too many red flags on the pre sale inspection.

Cleaning is superficial, I would be more concerned about all the things found wrong on the inspection, it tells me the owner doesn't maintain it very well, IF and I mean IF I were to consider buying that vehicle I would get a quote to repair all the items listed on the inspection, and then offer that amount plus at least another $1000 to $2000 less than the book value or what other 2015 T4Rs in that area are selling for, because I'm sure some other problem/s will soon come to light, if the seller refuses the offer I would look elsewhere.

An open power steering pump resevoir on inspection, loose tie rods, torn boot on sway bar link. The short language used by the inspector kinda suggests he wasnt very impressed.

It generally looks like an instagram rig that’s done serving it’s purpose for the grammer. It looks like it’s definitely been used off-road, but not very well maintained.

    Hell no to buying but....

What kind of half ass inspector writes "dash lit up like a Christmas tree"?

Sorry but if someone is getting paid for that shit they gotta do better. Plus the Christmas tree is listed under urgent but then below under warning lights its non-urgent.

haha that was my first thought too. the desire to maintain any sort of detailed professionalism or eloquence in the report prob went straight out the window when the 4R was pulled into the bay haha. it probably would have taken forever to detail all of the things.

+1, I wouldn’t buy a molested vehicle. I’d pay more for a bone stock one.

Unless you have good mechanical skills I suggest you don't buy it. First of all it heavily modified and you don't know if all the mods was done correctly. A lot of think might go wrong starting with airbag sensors and ending by premature wear of suspension, transfer case and transmission. And even with properly made mods you should expect more maintenance then for a stock truck. For example steel bumpers would wear out suspension faster, lift kit might need alinement more often etc. Of course if all mods were done by professionals this truck would be a dream for overlander, but you never know how it was done and how well it was maintained. Besides if you are not going to go for serious off-road or overlanding trips keep in mind that all those mods will affect fuel consumption a lot.

All the cool new stuff is cooler when the powdercoat is fresh, the suspension is tight, and isnt due on all the maintainance the mods will create.

But paying anywhere near market when every bit of heavy maintanance is due is counterproductive. Unless you can get a really good deal, you can do all the work yourself, and have the time to do it in trade. Even then, you don’t know how it was used. The transmission would probably suffer most on a heavy truck with a bad driver. Too many unknowns…. Even the stupid open cap on the power steering pump…how long has it been open, is the system contaminated now?

It would probably cost the same to buy an unmodded runner and get a fresh suspension, armor, bumpers, wheels, etc.

Thanks everyone. I passed. I’m glad I requested him to get an inspection done prior to flying to TX.

That being said… I’m in the market for a 4Runner if anyone is selling. I do some wheeling and I *do* prefer the mods… but done the right way and don’t want to buy one that’s beat to hell already.

Don’t let a purchase be emotional. A good vehicle will cost more to buy, a bad vehicle will cost more to keep. Save yourself a headache, pass on it.
    • Both doors not lining up usually means a front end collision enough to bend the frame. Based on the pics of the truck, could also be from hardcore or careless off roading (which could even be worse).
    • You have to ask yourself, why do so many things require a repair or replacement? What do they all have in common?

    vehicle is garbage

If you don’t get it then get your mom to help you buy a new car only

in this rather woke world not trying to be too harsh but you need a buddy to get you a good vehicle

buy new as it is obvious you are unfamiliar with junk cars, this one screams problems

the owner was also very stupid not to the an hour and hide or fix problems
in this case that is a good thing as you can walk away
I,would not buy this vehicle for 10 grand less than asking it is junk

Glad you passed. It’s hard to not want something that looks like a turn-key dream build. Too many indications this particular 4runner would have been a joy-sucking disappointment.

Also, good call on getting that inspection done, and letting the peanut gallery chime in. This forum makes it fun to spend other people’s money, but it’s also nice when it can help avoid headaches lol

Follow IG builds. They never wheel and usually they sell when it's done to pay off the debt.
