Agreed. I pointed out some drawbacks to EV's on another thread, and ended up getting attacked personally. I think that's how some people argue. As soon as they run out of things to say, they start insulting people.

Climate change, EVs, some technologies, etc. have become political subjects. When that happens, some people decide what side they're on, which is where the arguments often originate because they get emotionally charged. It's nice to get into a discussion/debate that is based on discussing facts, pros and cons, etc.

toyota and weed forums are my social media. If I was on social media I would piss off every one, and my humor would insult many folks.

    sounds like our politicians.

climate change has always been political, that’s been the problem all along. Therefore anything under the climate change umbrella takes on the same status.

You are. But, it's not necessarily something good.

I finally caved and joined fakebook awhile back, mostly to make it easier to share pictures and videos with friends and family. I was concerned about how that was going to go because.. well.. you've probably seen enough of my posts here to understand why.

After being on there for awhile, I just ignore stuff I disagree with. Now, if I could only learn to do that here...

I think it helps to be selective of who you accept as friends there. I've gotten requests from a lot of people from my past. In some cases, it's been good to reconnect. In other cases, I remember why I left them in the past.

Apparently a majority of the population is incapable of critical thinking, so that's a big problem. But its those that are capable of critical thinking we gain the most from and really what we look for in any discussion. I am more than willing to over look the BS to get to a few critical thinkers that know there stuff to help me with a decision or problem.

You are missing something, it is a great way to connect with people. But not everyone wants to get into the minds of there fellow man or care what direction things are going in.

IMO its good to observe what people with apposing views see through there eyes or and how they interact. Social media is a great way to do this even if you don't want to interact much. But yeah, totally get why many don't want to deal with any of it.

Reminds me of the expression, "Don't blame a clown for acting like a clown. Blame yourself for going to the circus." I've never seen a bigger clown show than facebook. No thanks.

I agree it’s important to see all sides, but social media just feeds folks what the computer learns one likes, thus reinforcing people’s thoughts, not challenging them.

I got it, in reference to the self-driving repo cars. Motorcycles. They may eventually figure out how to balance a two-wheeler while self-driving it to the Motherland, but it'll buy us time.

Interesting thought experiment. Having ridden motorcycles way back when, they are actually pretty easy to keep upright once moving, and much more maneuverable than 4 wheel vehicles.

You'd essentially need retractable training wheels for slower speeds but could point and shoot it like a missle guidance system while at speed. Would be a fun project, or maybe I'm just a nerd :woot:

Would probably be easier to start with those sweet ass 3 wheelers I see that look like Nabu fighters, or Mando's newest ride

Yeah, but that's only if you used social media blindly. Its not going to make my far right friends or my socialist friends change how they post. On social media I generally don't like anything but friends posts, plus I love playing the every AD is spam game and report them all. lol

Yup, all the different types of social media are designed to maximize engagement time. It really doesn’t take long for a platform to start feeding you the stuff that keeps you clicking, responding, or reading. The motive is business. They sell your attention to whoever pays the going rate. In a basic way, it’s the same as tv shows with commercials.

However, the nasty thing with social media is that not only can they sell your attention, but they also are very good at developing their users’ behavior and ideology into profitable territory as well. So what social media platforms sell is much more valuable to whoever is willing to buy…(edit:because it’s closer to selling you “whole”, not just your attention).

Tik Tok has really weaponized this science. Older folks here that were warned about cults, suggestibility, brainwashing etc as kids can maybe see this from a mile away, but young kids and teens now interacting with it are gone before anybody even notices.

Even as knowing adults we get sucked in easily…even as we complain about it.

Who cares? This never shows everything anyway.
Hey, I didn't know that John Deere already went full EV. Only EVs have these problems. That's what muh freedumbs tell me. Are you telling me that the problem isn't with EVs but rather with corporations in general and that a motor vehicle not having an internal combustion engine in it has nothing to do with how big brother Akio Toyoda's anal probe that probes me every time I drive my 2020 4Runner is? Oh man, my mind is blown. I thought only EVs were the devil. Now I don't feel so bad about sacrificing those goats!
