Decided to head up towards Mowich lake yesterday, we knew the road was closed before the lake but wanted to see how far we could get before it got too sketchy (for going solo). First time we were up in this area and plan to check it out again in the summer. And yes, we did also encounter a Prius trying to navigate this same road at a slightly lower elevation...

@4Daughters - I have since found some damage to one of my steps - only noticeable from underneath.

I’ve upgraded to a full skid package from RCI and have one of their gas tank skid plates on order.

Easy to put a kayak on the roof by yourself on the 4R? Looking to get into kayaking in the future primarily for hunting and fishing purposes, so it would be bulky kayak that could accommodate a deer. I have been wondering at 5' 11" / 180 and a month shy of 61, if a roof mounted kayak would be too much of a chore by myself? Plus, it would be a good excuse to remove the Pro roof rack and upgrade to a Sherpa Crestone. Thanks!

IMG_0040.jpg I saw this guy today eating a carcass of some type while I was driving by Little Bennett Park in Clarksburg, MD. Bald Eagles are becoming common sightings in these parts in recent years! Thankfully - always great to see!

That is super cool Jim. I agree so beautiful to see these birds. Below is not my pic but from a fishing forum. This is from a Lake Erie ice flow coming out of Detroit River. There have been groups creating nesting areas for a few years and more frequent sightings

Thanks! Whenever I see a bald eagle I think - America! We have an active nest less than two miles from my house and I live in a large subdivision of 4,000 homes - always cool to check out! My kids see them often when fishing on the Potomac River about 15 miles away. My best bald eagle sighting ever was in Washington, DC approximately eight years ago. The eagle was in a tree on the Mall by the monuments - how symbolic is that!

Positively Not an Osprey! The juveniles Eagles have speckling and get their white head after about five years looks like he is just changing. I’ve got to read the previous issue of Va Wildlife it has an article on tracking the Golden Eagles!

I don't agree. Here on the Columbia River, we have a dozen or so nesting osprey each summer, several nesting eagles and many migrating eagles. The Skagit has dozens of eagles about now and the Yakima River has a dozen or so ospreys each spring. We also have a golden eagle nesting area about 5 miles north of town, as well as down on Lmumma Creek and Selah Creek, both near Yakima.

I initially thought an adult Osprey as well but when you boost the exposure, you can see the feet are yellow. I can second a juvenile bald eagle opinion.

I can't blow up the pic and can't tell if feet are white or yellow, so I'll consider myself out-voted!

Screen shot and edit photo just using my phone. Plus I have the Merlin app, as I do bird counts locally at this time of year.

This is not something to brag about if you’re single, lol.

This was about halfway down our driveway at our property in NC. We're building our home here. Stock 2019 TRD Pro Off-Road Premium. Next I need to get a little bit more ground clearance.

While in grad school, I was on the Board of Directors for the Los Angeles Chapter of Quail Unlimited. Each year, we would do brood counts for California Quail at specified local waterholes, counting puffballs (baby quail). I couldn't go but my wife (also on the Board) went. A buddy (an ornithologist and resident taxidermist at LA County Museum) dropped her off. She was all "camoed out" in her turkey hunting gear and hunkered down before daylight. A couple of coyotes stopped by for a drink, as did a bobcat and a covey or two. Just at sunrise, there was a horrible roaring sound. This was in Angeles National Forest, which has a pretty good cougar population. When Tim got there to pick her up, she was standing in the road holding her .38 and white as a ghost. She jumped into the back of the truck and yelled for Tim to take off. After they got down the mountain, she explained why she was so terrified. Tim started roaring!! The waterhole, it seems, was about 1 mile as the crow flies from the Wildlife Waystation and that was the African lions roaring at breakfast time!

Later that summer, we were at our hunting camp on a friend's ranch when a cougar attacked a horse. That night, we chased a cougar out of the horse pasture, armed with a .22 pistol and her .38!

Since I don't shoot raptors, it a non-sequitur. Only quail and pheasnts for us, with pointers.

Nice! I would like to do the same in the not too distant future, but my wife loves the ocean and I love the hills. I am hoping for a mountain lake for a compromise. Western NC or Upstate SC is on my radar. Where in NC are you?

That bird looks bigger than a Osprey and a mature Osprey has more white on their heads - but obviously not like a Bald Eagle.
