I hope they go with that look and not like the new tundra some renderings are showing as the tundra looks like it came from the Ray Charles design studio with approval from Stevie Wonder.

yeah, not digging that myself either. But it looks like Bronco and FJ put together.
I personally dig the previous rendering, minus the back.

to me it looks like a Fj and Tacoma had to much to drink and had a child. If it was following the baby bronco setup then it would have looked like a RAV4.

The front with viper cuts already will make bigger tires easier. Looks like after market bumpers should be easier too.

Not my style, too Bronco-like. They may increase their competitiveness with Bronco and Wrangler, but in my opinion they will also lose a lot of buyers who like the practicality of 4Runner and aren't so much putting off road first. I knew something like this might be coming and I am glad I got my '23 ORP while the getting was good.

Well hopefully they do not follow the Bronco lead, in my opinion it has been yet a very large embarassment for Ford Motor Company. It does not matter how anything looks if it catches on fire, breaks down and has a leaky roof. Obviously the Stellantis products also have less than stellar long term quality.

As they say "if ain't broke don't fix it". If I was an exec at Toyota I would not change anything except the frame. As a corporation they meet their EPA guidelines with other products so why not keep milking the current 4R if all the tooling etal has been paid for for years. Let the techy folks go buy the broken Bronco.

I don't think it really looks like the Bronco that much. The Bronco has ugly, shitty looking round fender flares and round headlights.

As far as losing some of the usual 4Runner market; they might be filling that void with the new Prado. :notsure:

Also, this is just yet another rendering. I'm not going to get too excited until I see Toyota announce something, which they probably won't do until the 5th gens are nearly sold out.

Prado (aka Land Cruiser) for the soccer mom and the 4Runner for the mall crawler bro’s on here that act like 90% of their driving is on trails?

Sort of, I guess. But, the Prado is just as badass as the 4Runner is. Maybe the new 4Runner will be a little more utilitarian. :notsure:

Do you think execs at Toyota got the memo about the bad frames? Think they will change them in any way for the 6th Gen?

Anybody home at Toyota listening? Bueller Bueller?

I heard fully boxed aluminum frames (just kidding).

Would be nice if frame rust could get under control. But then again, they have to die of something

At least the 4Runner frames weren't as bad as the Tacoma frames. But, sometimes I look at it and think Toyota designed it to rust, so that people would have to buy new ones eventually.

It's obviously a known issue, root cause (or intent) unknown? My brother used to be a Toyota guy while I always had jeeps (mostly grand cherokees, '86 cherokee to start).

I remember him having a taco, fj cruiser, and tundras. He got rid of the last tundra because the rear axle fell out (again, rust issue) and bought an f150 in disgust. He had it for maybe a year or two and now... he's back in a tundra. Interested in seeing in how his turbo holds up in reliability

I know I’ve been on the fence to buy one more but I don’t need one at the moment. It would be an everyday vehicle even in winter. If it was not for the frames rusting issue I would be more inclined. I should probably save the money towards retirement. I just like buying stuff with a good track record

You would have thought by now with the 4R's popularity and reliability that Toyota would have fixed this frame rust issue. Strange.
Thanks to this Forum I had my 21' into rust-proofing when new with 600 miles on it. This coming May it goes in for it's 3rd treatment. I'll take photos and report back.

If I remember correctly it will be built on the Tundra/Tacoma Global frame, so production would be Texas/Mexico. I could be wrong but I seem to remember that being the case.

I think it could go either way, since the Prado and Landcruiser are going to be on the same platform as well (I think).

Yep thankfully I had mine fluid filmed within two months of buying it in the summer and I am fortunate that I don’t drive it in rain or snow or salt. It’s a fair weather babied vehicle.
