    Hi everyone.

I'm in Los Angeles, finally getting ready to pull the trigger and get a 4Runner after not having one since I sold my '89 in 2003.

Research on this site and others has piqued my curiosity about KDSS enough to where I want to test drive a 4Runner that has it to see if it's something I'd like. But finding one equipped with it is proving ridiculously difficult.

I've tried using the vehicle spec page on Toyota's website, but even when I put in VINs of cars I know have it, the result page still doesn't have it on it.

For that matter, I found a 4Runner where the dealer sent me pics to prove it has it along with a link to the car's page on the dealer's website, and it's not even listed there.

    Are they really this rare?

I just did a quick search in dealership (Mountain States Toyota) here in CO they have about 20 KDSS 4Runner ORPs listed.

It’s region based. Specific regions get lots of KDSS equipped 4Runners and some regions get zero KDSS.

November/December 2021 all I was able to find was KDSS, but I was the opposite I didn't want KDSS. I was searching in the Los Angeles/San Gabriel Valley/West Inland Empire areas.

KDSS is fairly popular and is usually readily available. But inventory is still messed up, people aren't getting the 2 key fobs they should.

I wish I were in Colorado. Here it's like looking for a unicorn.

I sent this picture to a dealer in Arizona when he asked what to look for.

Here's what he sent me back. Maybe one of you can make heads or tails out of it.

Damn. If I knew I wanted it for sure I'd make the trip. Too far to do a test drive, though.

Thank you sir. Been a fan of your previous posts, btw. I live in SoCal but my wife's family is from your neck of the woods. Haven't gone off-roading there yet, though.

KDSS or regular offroads are impossible to find in the mid Atlantic

If you ever make it up to WI, hit me up! We do outings pretty regularly, the crew from here and Tacomaworld keeps getting bigger. Here's the local events page, if you're interested. We have 5 events planned already this year.

North Hollywood Toyota says they have three in stock. Two are Magnetic Gray Metallic ORP, and one is a Lime Rush ORP.

Scroll down to the tab labeled “Additional Equipment.”

Edit: Oops. Sorry, one of these is in transit and two are in “build phase”.

I wish they had made the nightshade in the new orange, but I agree the gray looks better with the black chrome package than the pearl white or the black trying to find some of the blacked out Tail lights to switch out looks much better.

Thanks for the headsup. BTW your post about not finding KDSS listed when you ran your own VIN on the Toyota Website was key in saving me A LOT of headache and wasted time.

    A lot of stuff.
I have KDSS and I loved it when it was working. My front piston took a crap on me last year (piston kept knocking) and the dealership wanted 4k to replace the system. Crazy because this was only a $1700 option. I ended up just removing my front sway bar ever since. The 4Runner rides like a cloud with my Kings but I do have a tad bit more body roll. Would I get it again? Probably not.
