Has anyone ditched the spare tire underneath the rear? If so any improvements in the drive or gas mileage?

I'm sure it will be improvement in gas mileage if you drop any weight from your truck. But I think 4Runner is not a vehicle you want to improve gas mileage that way.

Is the negligible fuel economy savings worth your time when you have to go retrieve a spare tire when ones gone flat? There are a few places to find fuel savings but this aint one.

Not worth the effort. The spare is what, 70lbs. That's negligible when it comes to economy. And you'd lose some of that savings by carrying a pump and tire repair kit.

Also, not being stranded without a spare is priceless.

If you were looking for 1/4 mile times it might shave a few hundredths off your time though.

I don't have any idea. But curious are we talking about moving the spare tire from underneath to rear bumper or inside the vehicle to improve drive or gas mileage? Or completely not having a spare tire?

Anyways, I'm scared when people not having matching spare tire. So just double checking the question.

A 40lb-50lb reduction won’t do a thing. Only benefit is clearance for offroading, but then you’ll want one inside or mounted on a bumper.

I got rid of my spare and my driver's side rear tire.

My 4Runner doesn't use ANY gas now...
