    Greetings everyone, Two questions:

    1) Has anyone shipped their 4Runner from coast to coast? What was your experience and the cost? Any difficulties or up-charges due to truck size or Mods?

    2) Has anyone ever shipped their truck cross-country and then shipped it back in an effort to save vacation time and mileage? I was thinking about shipping my truck to Utah/Oregon and then flying out to do some offroading, then shipping it back home. Any thoughts?

From MN to Ca, passenger vehicle shipped on a truck was roughly $1200. If you got the extra funds for it, go for it but sound like it wont be cheap.

Also, there could be drop off and pickup delays that you may need to account for. Not sure if it would be worth the hassle.

Agreed. Anticipate possible damage in shipment. If you are ok with that I say go for it. Time is $.

Are you willing to be without a vehicle if there are delays in arrival of your vehicle?

It would save time but you would have to ship days before you leave and would not get it back until days after you return. Also, you might be the first person worried about mileage on a 4Runner...

The cost / time / wear & tear & mileage is interesting. The reason I brought this up is I have a coworker that is hell-bent on sending his Jeep to Oregon to do the same (Money is not an object for him)

I understand his argument for wanting to save vacation days to allow for more travel.

After hearing some of the replies, it seems for me personally that renting a purpose-built rig would be more reasonable (And cost effective) to do trips out west. Fly out with a few tools and sleeping bag. I think the key is finding a capable vehicle to rent.

I worry about mileage on anything I own.
