Anyone know if the longer nipple version fits with the stock skid plates? I have one on our outback and it super nice to be able to attach a hose.

I have the short nipple version and it worked fine with the stock skid plate. It also gives about 1” of clearance on RCI skids - I know as I replaced the factory skid with RCI….

    cheers,

While I have your attention... are the skid plate bolts on a sr5 M8x1.25 20mm long?

I was thinking replace them with stainless. I found that size for some older generations. Wasn't sure on a 5th gen.

Once I actually have my 4Runner I'll be able to look. Should have it tomorrow morning.

    Once again. Thanks fellas

Wouldn't clearance with the RCI skid be a non-issue, since the hole in the skid is directly below the drain plug?

You'll have to use anti seize with stainless bolts anyway to prevent galling. Just use anti seize on your steel bolts and save your money.

I planned on anti seize either way. I guess if the stock blots seem to thread fine I'll just use them for a while.

You would not want the nipple to extend below the skid plate. that would be a recipe for disaster.

The longer nipple vs. the short nipple version of the Fumoto valve is 10mm (.39 inches) longer. So if the short version gives 1" of clearance from the RCI skid, there's no possibility of the longer version extending below the skid plate.

I'm not saying longer is better, just that it doesn't extend below the skid.

No, the longer version wouldn’t extend below the 2” round oil drain opening in the RCI skid plate. That said, the possibility of a pointy rock dragging over the oil drain opening in the skid and hitting the drain nipple is reduced with the short nipple.

I’d rather have the extra margin of safety…

    Cheers,
    Bob

Do you have aftermarket skids? Does it spill in the skids since it doesn’t have the short nipple? I ask because I have this one also just waiting for oil change time but I noticed some guys installed the one with the short nipple.

I have SOS skids. It drains straight through the hole in the skid. It pours out in a clean stream, so nothing splashes the skid that I've noticed.

    Ditto for the RCI skids….

I have an older short nipple about 7 years old. 3/8 fuel line works just fine w my SW skid. I have to change my oil in the driveway and the first time I changed with the Fumoto installed, the wind moved the stream around, so oil went all over the skid. Had to drop it and clean it up. So I started using the hose.
