OK. I confess that I am not going to be sliding any rocks. I Just like to be ready for bad weather or the occasional rutty timber road if I find time to get back to some Georgia woods hunting / fishing . I am looking for some fairly flush fitting sliders mostly for cosmetics and a bit of brush protection, and to hide some of the frame. Looks a bit naked to me. I want close to body as possible to avoid a wet or dirty pants leg when getting in or out. Not to be used as a step. Only cosmetic. Any recommendations are appreciated.

Do these stick out far enough to prevent door dings? Someone's door would hit the slider instead of the 4r?

Go with some like RCI or RSG that have the kick out. They will help with mall crawling door dings.

Probably not. The door curves out past the sliders, but even more traditional sliders which protrude further really don't guarantee that either as there is a wide range of vehicle heights and door shapes.

BAMF's here. Especially with a little lift seems like they would protect against car doors. They come with a pretty darn durable coating.

The toyota ones sound perfect for your situation.

With regard to protecting from door dings, I have yet to park next to a car that has a door that would contact my sliders first. The curvatures on the door edge would have to be so odd, and the height so perfect, for a slider to catch it first.

I noticed a parking lot ding just last week. My RSG sliders don't show any evidence of contact and didn't do dick to stop whoever bashed my driver's door.

I would not suggest to anyone door ding protection is a feature of sliders.

If you park next to a full sized Ford/Chevy/Ram/Tundra pickup, sliders won't prevent door dings. They will help with most cars. I try not to park next to full sized trucks. Also, the tighter to the body the slider is (higher degree vs zero or flat), the less door ding protection, for the most part.

I'm not sure which cars you have been parking beside, but there are many cars and smaller SUVs where my RSG sliders protect my 4Runner from driver and passenger side door dings. For back seat doors where the door has a curved portion that goes around the rear wheel well, those will miss the sliders and make contact with the door of the 4Runner. The sliders also don't typically protect against dings from full sized trucks or other tall vehicles, or vehicles where the door has a lot of curvature. I have the zero degree RSG sliders with the rear kick-out, and these stick out farther than most other brands.

“Sliders will protect from door dings” is yet another marketing myth.

I have the Toyota sliders. I can jack the truck with them. I have hit them quite hard and have not yielded any mounting point. My truck sees about 1500-2000 miles of dirt/trails per year.

They are not a step and you can not even get your toes into them with shoes on and the coating sucks. I have sandblasted away the leading edge surfaces over the course of two years. They do not protect against door dings at all.

I have RSG HREW sliders with top plate and kickout.
They have lot of options from steel construction (HREW / DOM), whether you need flat or angle, with or without top plate, with or without kick out, etc..

I just park in the very very back and try to avoid the knuckle heads drivers and women with purses that are the size of a suitcase.

    This!
Especially on rainy days when women and children are trying to dive in or out while fussing with umbrellas and car seats. Prime door ding time.

I also usually park out and away from the prime spaces and consider it an opportunity to get some steps in.

And never beside cars that look like the owner does not care about their car. Scarred and beat up doors don’t care about anyone else’s doors.

and I avoid parking beside those long 2 door sedans that can swing out wide and ding you 5 feet away!

Its a jungle out there at the mall!!

This works until you park so far away, that there are 30 empty parking spaces closer their destination, and they still choose to park their smashed in bucket right next to you. I actually think some of those people do it purposely.

That’s probably an employee that parks way out to come out and get a buzz on lunch break…

Yep there are those too that risk is much less though I think than the door dings.

Years ago I went to a Lowe’s to get an air conditioner for an ex girlfriend. I had to go to a rougher neighborhood where it was in stock. I parked way my new Accord at the time way in the back. As I walked inside I saw some smucks pull up to my car looking in each of the windows of the car. I ran out yelling and screaming to get the hell away from the car. They got in their car and sped off. Luckily no damage and no gun shots. Needless to say I left and said hell with the ac and a pissed off girlfriend.

The white spots are the puddle lights.
    Obviously partially blocked now.
