I’m looking at buying a 2023 TRDOR premium. It has the factory tube steps. I watched an install Utube and a guy had to remove a flange (about 3” long) located in front of the rear wheel because they interfered with the step installation. The guy said it is plastic? I am attaching a picture. Does anyone know why this flange is there? It is held in place with 2 bolts. He did not reinstall them because they interfered. I’m just wondering if this piece is remove at the factory (or port where installed). And what function were they serving. Thanks

I thought it was a mini mud flap. I have N-Fab steps and they do not interfere with those mini plastic flaps.

Anyone know for sure what that plastic tab is in front of rear wheel? It’s held in place by 2 bolts? Looks like it was placed there intentionally?

My 4R was delivered with the Predator steps already installed (since removed and sold) and I don't remember if it had that bracket or not, sorry.

Yes. So why is it there? And is the Port removing them to install the Predator steps? The Utube install I watched had the exact steps and they had to remove the bracket to install the bolts for steps. Seems odd if it is a factory approved product and the bracket serves a function.

glwood54, I see you have a 2019 OR. If I may ask (changing subject) have to had the needle bearing issue on your truck? I’m considering buying a 2023 ORP and I dread that issue showing up quickly. But seems minor compared to a repair requiring engine removal (like timing cover oil leak I had on my Tacoma).

I'd say if you're ordering the 4R with the steps, and they are installed when you get it and that bracket isn't there, it's fine. I don't think it serves any purpose.
No needle bearing issue on my 4R. I also have Eibach leveling shocks on the front (.85 setting) and stock height Eibach shocks in the rear. Still no issues with the needle bearing. I don't have a lot of miles on mine, though.

Depending on where you live, and it rears its ugly head, I'd just find someone or a shop to do the ECGS bushing. Not worth haggling with Toyota over it. If I lived near one of the installers who post on here, I'd have them do it even though I don't need it.

I agree. It’s sounds like a great fix, that’s not expensive or that complicated. I have been offered a 2023 ORP that has the steps installed ($899). I would not choose these if I had a choice but availability is slim. Most are pre-sold. I would be paying MSRP. The Port installed stuff I don’t want is non-negotiable. That includes the steps at $899, $299 for 2 oil changes and 4 tire rotations, and some door edge guards. Out the door is $50,900. I need to decide in couple days. I’m thinking of a 4 Runner vs Tacoma for a change. As long as it is good off road (I hunt) and can pull a small utility trailer, I’m fine with SUV vs truck. The 4 Runner seems like a vehicle you could keep for years. That’s what I’m looking for. The Care Care Nut guy on Utube speaks highly of the Gen 5, 4 Runner as an old school reliable vehicle. I only drive about 10,000 miles per year so gas mileage is not a big deal. Reliability is my main focus.

It diverts water. Just installed the Predator tubes last week. The instructions state to remove the flange and discard. My 2016 has the flange. If you google the predator tube part number it will link to the instructions.

What's with the "$299 for 2 oil changes and 4 tire rotations"? Every Toyota ad you see touts the free Toyota Care...why would this dealer charge for that?

I made a mistake. It’s $699, but it also includes paint protector and interior protector. It’s on the window sticker as a port installed option.

The paint and interior protection is snake oil. Is the ORP with KDSS? If so, the price isn’t bad and if it is the color you want…

No KDSS. It is lunar rock color however which is what I want. I would like another $1000 off price. But this is the first one I have been offered. Arrives in 22 days.

@rmiked is the $50,900 out the door including tax and license? Just want to make sure. If so, that’s not a bad price imo.

I just put some nfab steps on mine and had to remove it. It serves no purpose just gives me 4 extra screws for something later. 2 from each side. But mine came with the sr5 chrome steps on it that i quickly removed, so maybe something with those.

I just put a deposit down on a 2023 ORP in Silver Metallic. My wife liked the Silver better than Lunar Rock. Anyway, $49,306 out the door. Has the moonroof, all weather cargo mat, LED interior light upgrade and door edge guards-door cups. Paid $899 doc fee and $500 sales tax (SC caps at 500). Should be here in 17 days. Didn’t realize but the ORP comes with TRD floor mats. That’s not true on the Tacoma TRD OR.

SC has a deal at 500. My state is 6.25% no matter the price.
