Hey hey! I have a 2016 4runner and last night the light coming through the orange strip on my temperature control knob stopped working.

My dealership said it will cost 1800 to replace the whole dash because of this one bulb.. Does anyone know if the lights are soldered to the boards on these models or recommendations on what my options are to fix it?

I'm not sure how it's illuminated, but I'll wager it's a surface mount LED behind a light-pipe. That's how it was on my 2004 Wrangler, at least. It's likely not a replaceable wheat-grain lamp.

If you're handy with a soldering iron and inventive you could probably replace the offending part. I'd take it apart and look around... Could be something simple. Even if you can't fix it you'd be no worse of than you are now.

The hardest part will probably be getting to it, followed by finding a suitable replacement lamp/LED. I'd personally go that route before I dropped $1800 on a dashboard... which sounds like a money-grab to me.

Lights all around. IVD front standard travel
I replaced mine on my 4th gen recently and it was about $6 per light at the dealership and took me all of 2 mins to do. Try looking up a YouTube video to see how it’s done and see if you can do it yourself

This is what the light bulb looked like on my 4runner
