Have a car charger for my iPhone 14 Max S phone --- used the cigarette lighter in my 2018 4Runner Limited -- wouldn't charge. Took the cord attached to to the cigarette lighter adapter and my phone; plugged it into a USB port just left of the cigarette lighter -- it worked.

    1) why wouldn't the cigarette port not work (red light shown and my phone indicated charging; although it wasn't)

    2) is the USB port okay? I've read it's not really a phone charger

    3) I was using GPS navigation while trying to charge my phone -- if this would be a problem? (But I needed the navigation app to get to my destination).

Thanks for suggestions -- travel some and I do need a charged phone.

The usb is for carplay on my 22
Does the 18 have carplay? the usb will charge but it is not fast.
Is it possible the cigarette adapter is bad? You could try it on the rear 12v to test if it is the socket or the adapter.

    1. Try another charger. Just because the light is on doesn't mean its good to go.

    2. Its fine but its slooooooooow. Its about right that it didn't charge but didn't lose any charge either.

    3. Prolly because USB charge is slow.

Check voltage with multimeter, cigarette lighter port should have somewhere between 12V and 14V. If voltage is there - your charger doesn't work. If voltage is less than 12V you have issues with this port.

No CarPlay in '18. That started in 2020.
