Headed out there April 20th with group of friends in 3-4 vehicles. Planning on east to west route. Curious if anyone has been this season and has details on road conditions and the water crossing. I know the road is pretty tame and I'm not too worried about the majority of it but the water crossing towards the end is the wildcard. I've heard it's way more manageable now than 2-3 years ago but would love some recent feedback if anyone has been this year.

Water crossing was filled in with rock several years back, it's like 6" deep (as of two years ago).

I ran it in 2021 and the only water crossing that was kinda deep was the crossing under the railroad bridge in Afton Canyon, but it was only like "wheel deep" and short.

Not recent intel, as it is two years old, but I like pimping my shit - so here:

I was out there back in December. Ran about half of it going east to west. Conditions were fine and easy, though the whole trail is pretty washboarded so it got pretty annoying by the end of it. One of the few times I was happy to see pavement

Water crossings were manageable, maybe mid bumper height. I have video of it but I’d have to send it to you via Instagram or something. I feel like the water level may rise after this storm we are getting

Thanks Kyle. Aren’t the water crossing close to the west end? Or were there multiple ones, some of which you encountered in the half you traveled?

They are on the west side, in/near Afton canyon. There were 2 of them when I went through

Haven't been there but I suspect it will look something like this for at least the next week.

Since you're going east to west, you'll be in a wash near rail road tracks before you get to the crossing (you could choose to drive on the side of the tracks for periods of time as well just before the crossing but the wash is more fun). There will be a low rail road bridge a mile or two or so before you get to the crossing that goes over the wash. Maybe a few miles I dont recall. If you can't make the crossing, there's a road going north just before that bridge you drive under and you can make it to the highway no problem.

Here's a pic of the crossing beginning of July 2 years ago. Was maybe shin deep. It got to 117 degrees that day. Hard to see but there's a motorcycle on the other side.

I'm going south to north from the Mexico border to the norther end of Death Valley on the CABDR starting next Saturday. Pretty curious the road conditions out there with all this record rain.

Might be a good idea to bring gas in case you have to turn around multiple times due to roads being impassable because of the weather.

Bumping this thread again as we are inside of 30 days from our trip. Raining again in so cal today so I’m assuming the water crossings will be deep!

If anyone has been recently I’d love some recent intel. Thanks!

Just drove south to north through the Mojave preserve and about a quarter or so of it from east to west. All the roads were fine. Nothing washed out. No rain here. My friends all said it was dumping rain in the Bay Area.

Again, all roads were 100% just fine exactly as they were 2 years ago. You should be fine in the water crossing because a company dumped rocks in it so it's no longer deep. You'll be fine.

The red dot in the center of my screen shot here is a good place to camp. Flat. Fire pits. If it's windy you can put a tent up against the rocks. Shade for when the sun comes up. It's been very windy which has sucked. Bring ear plugs just in case it's windy so you can sleep at night in the tent if it's windy.

And if you're wondering about clearance. I have about a 3 inch suspension lift on 33's and can drive over anything out there. Don't need to choose a line. Stock SUV's / trucks are fine.

Any updates on your trip? Thinking about doing this one in a month. How were the road conditions?
