Does anyone know of a simple affordable upgrade to convert my 2019 nav and radio to have Apple CarPlay. I hate to spend tons of money to pay someone to put a whole new system in. I’m not real handy not sure I could take dash apart to connect a bunch of stuff.

I found this on Amazon thinking to try on my 2019 Limited. I haven't tested personally so can't say anything about it. Just shared the link..

    Edit -
But this needs some dash removal as well:(
I have removed dash couple of times so I'm somewhat comfortable doing it.
I have a front camera instal video that kinda show how to remove the dash and stock headunit. I can share it if that's helpful to get an idea.

Well there are some external devices. But very laggy and not as good as a built in application.

Thanks I’ve seen the ones to stick on dash but was hoping there might be something easy and still use my original equip. I saw a video for mustang and all he had to do was swap out a usb box and then go to the ford website to down load a new software. But his was in his center console. Wish Toyota would do something simple like that instead of having to tear apart dash!

I appreciate your transparency. I too am not that handy and feel intimidated by disconnecting dashes and harnesses, etc. but I did it! The 4Runner radio is really simple to remove. Pull out two plastic pieces by hand near the gear shift and unbolt 4 nuts holding the radio in and pull it out!

Trail Grid Pro has an affordable Sony unit that comes with an adapter harness that just allows you to reconnect to the wiring on the 4 Runner and to your new radio. Most people with very minimal skills could watch the video and install it in 2 hours (and that’s taking your time!) Go for it!

The instructions and harnesses are worth ANY savings you may get elsewhere. I've only bought electronics from them for well over 20 years.
