Hello, I'm new to the forum. I have owned many Toyotas, in my opinion best vehicle made. I currently have a 2005 4 runner limited , all stock with the exception of transmission being replaced in 2016 by previous owner. A few months ago I started getting occasional check engine light , followed by the trac , ABS, lights and code P0717. I bought a input turbine sensor thinking that may be my problem. Well I think it was indirectly my problem. As I pulled the plug off my old sensor to prepare for replacement, the whole cable broke up on top of transmission where it splices into the larger harness. Not enough left for me to re splice. Can I wire my new sensor with a new plug directly to the ECU. I'm keeping the vehicle , just trying to avoid pulling the transmission to fix a broken wire. One wire was already broken so I feel sure this was my issue. Also, can I drive without the sensor hooked up. It seems to drive just fine , just maybe shifts not as smooth. Thanks for any help.

That is rather hard to give a decent reply to with out pictures, However there is a chance you can Open the harness if you are very carful about it and find enough of the wire in the harness to splice it back together with.
Without a Electrical Drawings in front of me for that circuit it would be hard to say yes you can just run new wires directly to the ECU because sometimes there are other interfaces that a made on the way there like it might not go directly to the ECU it could but I don't know.
