It’s about 80miles from Silver City to Truth or Consequences. My house is about 4 miles from the start of Emery Pass on the Silver City side of the Black Range. Along this road (Hwy 152) are 2 real tiny historic mining towns, Kingston and Hillsboro.

It’s appreciated that you guys care about usability of the forum site. Especially considering the other 4runner forum will crash my browser every time, and that only 1/5th of the page is readable after all the popups populate the page. It’s not even worth the effort to try ti hit the tiny x to close them down, since they popup on the next page lol.

So a post with multiple pictures, even lots of them, is hardly a concern in comparison lol. Im enjoying all these posts…keeps the fire going for the next adventure!

"4Runners in Scenic Locations..." Okay let's have a little fun....little trip to the recent past...2 years ago tomorrow...the Dallas / North Texas area suffered a once-in-a-generation snow storm February 2021. Texans and Californian transplants alike, all stuck in their homes.

Local grocery stores ransacked for briskets, cheerios, eggo waffles, bottled water, and everything in between as though it were the end times or the early days of the pandemic...the 3-4" of snow might as well have been 5 feet of powder on a Colorado 14er.

Here's my 4Runner on a run to Buc-ee's...why? Why not!

Cities in the south don't buy infrastructure to clear and treat the roads. With power grids in and out (a hilarious debacle in and of itself) brave suburbians - both native Texans and those fleeing and relocating from far flung states across the realm) were forced to leave their electronic devices and venture out to play....

I dare say a fun and welcomed break to the monotony of WFH and zoomworld. Nary a sales call was held, spreadsheets, powerpoints, Microsoft teams rooms, and SFDC.com were ignored for 2 ish glorious days due to the power outage. Being able to put my 4Runner in 4WD around the burbs? Priceless!

I give you more pics of the dangerous snowpacalypse that gripped so much of Texas 2 years ago this week!

Fortunately, us hardy Midwesterners were able to take summer pool floats and seldom used sleds, and put them to good work on the one decent hill worth sledding in flat north Texas in our area. /End story.

That other site is trash. Using it is so frustrating.

I would make another suggestion for this thread that we try to keep it to one or two pics with a short description of where. Shouldn't take more than a sentence or two, otherwise it becomes a trip report which should really be it's own post.

Maybe feel free to start a trip post and just add the link here along with the one pic so people can check out the rest of the trip if they want.

There is also a photography thread for great landscape and sunset shots or whatever else might not fit into 4Runners in a scenic location.

In regards to problems with the page loading slowly when there's a lot of photos - too many people upload the full-size photo, whatever came out of their phone or camera. That can be upwards of 20 megabytes in size and it is not necessary for viewing a photo on a forum and just slows things way down. I make sure I downsize all of the shots I post to less than 500 kilobytes.

This thread has hosted some trip report level posts, which has been fine by me. But I think a dedicated trip reports subforum might be handy. There’s an off-roading subforum section, but that can come off as a place to post flex pics or just particulars about obstacles. I used to hang out a lot on advrider, and the ride reports forum was one of my favorite parts, beside the jomama subforum lol

I think it would be great to encourage more trip reports…somewhere, if not on this particular thread. Trip reports really can be a great source of info on how people organize and use gear, what works and what doesn't, hear how folks deal with mistakes, and just feed that sense of wanderlust.

I'm here for the escapism, to get ideas on cool setups other 4Runner owners are doing, and to see cool pics. Anecdotes are cool too, to go with pics.

As someone who approves expense reports, I don't want to hear the word trip report! Keep that corporate buzzword outta here - we're here to get away from the vagaries of corporate world, not be reminded of it! ; - )

Good tip though on reducing image size of pics to help the site pages load.

I agree with you. I spent many years on advrider, and unless I needed to sell something or look up a specific issue with my bike, the "Ride Reports" subforum was the only one I went to, I spent all my time there. I'd love to see that kind of a subforum here.

Believe me when I say I hate buzzwords too. I consider them loathsome words that always seem to point towards the people without substance or skill. Buzzwords will set me on tirades with whoever will listen.

How about “travel log”? But that has a twinge of marketing, so not totally sure on that.

I’d be fine calling it “I went somewhere today”. ;)

As a photographer, it frustrated me in real life when friends and family, people at work would flood me with pics of their trips. I’d always say, “pretend it’s a contest, only show me your best 3”. The once I started joining photography forums it became the same except in one pro site, which remained active for years while the others faded. On here, as soon as it’s more than 4 photos, I don’t even bother looking at the rest.

    I concur.

I generally offer up a link for multiple pics so people can decide if they want to look at my stuff or not; I guess most people probably are uploading images through this site though and not using a hosting service which precludes doing that.

Devils Tower back July 2021. What a cool place. Had to glamour shot the 4runner for sure. This is on the way out where all teh prairie dogs live. We stopped to check them out. They will pretty much crawl in your car if you let them.

Sick build! I am pretty local to you in southern NH! how did you secure the aluminum boxes and out of curiosity what kind of mpgs do you get with that setup?

Thanks! The Zarges Boxes are u-bolted through the bottom and hook into the rack below. I’m getting about 16ish right now. I don’t usually leave the boxes and RTT on though so MPGs go up to around 17-18 with them off.
