Thinking about buying a 1998 4Runner with 140xxx miles on it. I've wanted a 3rd generation for years. It has one accident on the carfax/auto check reports with no details other than "Airbags Did Not Deploy". It also has what appears to be a minor oil leak. As far as I can tell it's not so bad that its actually dripping onto the ground, no spots where it was parked, etc. The owner mentioned it to me that there was a minor oil leak when he had purchased the vehicle last year, and I confirmed with a quick look under the car.
I'm having a mechanic look it over but I don't know him. He was recommended as he works on the Toyotas of a couple people that I know. But none of those cars are 4Runners.
Will the average mechanic be able to tell me if I am making a mistake? It's the first one I have seen in a long time that is fairly priced and doesn't have 250,000 miles on it.
I'm hoping the mechanic has good things to say because there are some fishing spots that I have missed after losing 4wd a few years ago. Thanks
