    I have a 2007 4runner 4.6L Automatic Transmission

It shifts to reverse, and reverses fine. Also the reverse indicator light up in the gauge cluster illuminates,

Then moving down from reverse, into any other gear selection, the reverse indicator on the gauge cluster shuts off as expected, but no other gear indicator lights illuminate, and the car does not engage any other gears. just park and reverse.

Any idea what might be causing this issue?
shift / pressure solenoids in the transmission, incorrect trans fluid level, the shift link cable, etc.

Anything I can rule out based on reverse working, or anything you can recommend to check next?

i scanned the computer, and no codes related to the transmission are popping up.

Also, the RPM guauge stays at 0 and I'm not 100% sure but I believe the fuel gauge is incorrectly displaying 0 as well although its possible its just low on fuel .

any recommendations on where to look to next would be appreciated.

Since I dont really know how to test the solenoids, or really what I'd even be testing for, since I havent a clue how they work, or which one is which. im stumped.
My next step is gonna be to replace the entire set of the solenoids in the transmission with aftermarket Amazon ones for roughly $100 total...

Looks like the OEM ones are like double that cost for EACH solenoid?

    or more... is that right?

    ridiculous

    Those aftermarket Solenoids are trash.

If the OEM ones can be tested, I'd test those and reuse them if they test out good.

It could be a bunch of issues but sounds like it's going to be internal to the transmission.

    update.

So im still having the same issue. I put the pedal to the floor in drive with foot on the brake (cause its parked on a hill)

after a few seconds, shut off the engine, and ding, i got a transmission code to pop up.

Its for pressure control solenoid "d" stuck off, p2714, and p0894 "transmission slipping"

So i purchased a complete set of oem rebuilt solenoids, all 7 of them.

refilled the transmission and verified the level, did the same pedal to the floor scenario again, and again, its throwing the same exact code for solenoid "D" stuck off,

So i'm assuming it was never the solenoid in the first place, or somehow the solenoid I got is also bad, but i'm doubtful that is the case.

    Where should I look next?

    Thank you
