Holy Gallopin Girdy - why all this talk on fuel mileage? You (I would hope) had to know that when you purchased your well known and popular off-road vehicle that, by its very nature, would not come with economic bragging rights. Also in this day and age of technology, specifically Google and/or Youtube you would have discovered, prior to purchase, what the average mpg is for the vehicle you purchased - or am I the only one that does that (I think not..)? Enjoy them for what they are - not for what they are not... :amen:?

yes indeed. I was a Blazer/Trailblazer (the old ones that were real manly-man truck based SUVs) guy before upgrading so I didn't expect great gas mileage. I bought a 4Runner because it's dependable and sexy, much like myself. I knew my gas bill would equal the monthly loan payment going in and accepted it as part of the deal.
...still take my wifes Pilot on long highway trips tho.

You do realize you just started another thread about fuel economy, right? :boink:

I'm sure I talk about it as much as just about anyone here. But, here's my thoughts..

I never expected great gas mileage with this vehicle. That's not why I bought it. But, I'll try to adjust my driving to get better mileage when I can afford to take my time. Otherwise, I just drive it, and accept the trade off of fuel economy for awesomeness. :p

I think it's fine to discuss fuel economy, as long as one has realistic expectations. Anyone who complains about it really should have done more research. It is not a secret at all that these things are thirsty!

I've pretty much kept receipts from every fill up since day 1 since I purchased the 4R with 3 miles on the odometer. Not that I'm looking for a certain number, just out of curiosity. I've done that for years with 3 Tacomas, and 3 Jeeps. It's just habit now. I think I'd like to be able to just fill-n-go, and stop keeping track...

What will be interesting is to see if there's any difference after getting the 4R tuned...

One thing that kills mpg is pedal sensitivity. A lot of the tunes enhance pedal response. Even with a pedal commander on sport mode dropped my fuel mileage. Don't get me wrong I love my tune and I'd say I get good milage with 285s.

As long as I'm getting 300 miles or more between fill ups, we'll thats good enough for me.

As I like to say, the 4Runner is a MPT (Miles Per Tank) vehicle. "It's a truck, it doesn't get MPG." We should abandon MPG as a measurement. :D

With the 4Runner I am pretty amazed that something with the aerodynamics of a brick gets as good as it does with it's gas mileage.
