    I started dating a woman who owns a 2017 4Runner TRD Pro with 74k miles on it.

    It is completely stock and she runs studded snow tires on the factory rims in the winter.

    We went out the other night and took her vehicle instead of mine. I was shocked at how rough it rode. It was bone jarring.

    She mentioned that it does hurt her back after a couple of hours of driving despite the super comfy leather seats.

    Mine is the SR5 with 33" tires and I thought it rode a bit rough, but it is a Cadillac compared to hers.

    She wants to lift hers and run bigger tires eventually, but she only has a few inches of garage door clearance to spare.

    Curious as to if all TRD Pros are so stiff and jarring.

    Is that when they still put Bilsteins on them?

    I have basically the same setup on mine. I feel every little bump, but it soaks up the big ones better.

    I think Bilsteins are known for that. But, also, 74 K miles and 6 years could be nearing the end of the shocks' life. :notsure:

    Sounds like a worn out suspension and overinflated tires. My Pro rides pretty nice. I felt that my Limited rode a tad harsher than the Pro. My butt comfort meter was on at the time. Lol.

    What year? They switched to Fox suspension a few years ago.

    I’m surprised no one asked about the studded snow tires on her 2017 TRD Pro. As others have noted, could be end of life for shocks, over inflated tires (should be 34 psi as per inside drivers door sticker). I understood that even this model year Pro road softer than my ‘22 Off Road OEM, and I thought mine was a Cadillac.

    You should tell that this forum has lot of members who say you don't need lift to run 33's :p:p:p

    As for the ride quality may be her Pro has over inflated Load E tires with worn out shocks.

    Apart from all those theories that people tell if she get a nice suspension lift and not heavy 33ish SL or load C tires she should get a good ride back.

    I have 1.5 total lift front and stock rear and I don't have problem with my garage door but barely clears my 285/70R17. I think 2in front and 1in rear should be a nice balance to clear the garage door yet enough room for 285s with normal fender liner and mudflap mod.

    I don’t understand how you guys shocks are wearing out so quick? My 97’ Tacoma had the original shocks and struts after 265k miles and they were fine.

    If I can remember correctly my 4x4shop buddy said high pressure is contributing seals wear out faster.

    That makes sense. I believe most of the high performance aftermarket shocks are mono-tube as opposed to stock shocks. Thank you for pointing this out.

    Both the Bilstein/Fox equipped Pros feel great on-road... As others have suggested, warn out suspension components, tires, etc may be the culprit.

    We have LT tires, in the winter/cold, the 10 ply rating has a choppier ride. Maybe the tires being studded has something to do with it, or inflation PSI. Experiment with the tire pressure.

    I can absolutely 100% guarantee you that your shocks and struts were totally worn out. The only reason you didn't notice was that they wore out gradually as you drove it and you didn't notice. If you'd put new shocks and struts in it, you would have seen a world of difference.

    Maybe the tires were inflated to the max pressure? A female friend of mine had this done to her at a "jiffy" lube place. I've also seen other folks max it out thinking that's the pressure needed...

    I've seen this way too often, as well. It's unbelievable how many people believe that the "max inflation" is appropriate.

    I’m running LT load E tires and my SR5 rides great, no harshness at all. Tires at approximately 36 psi.

    I didn't want to nerd out on her about her tires and ride stiffness just yet, but it just felt like there was very little give in the suspension; like a 1-ton pickup with no weight on it.

    It's funny how women view moving too fast in a relationship as emotional or physical limitations, and men view it as vehicle advice and repair, lol.

    Next date we will discuss daddy issues and tire pressures...

    I’ve got stock tires/suspensions and it rides very smooth. Like others have said, there’s gotta be something wrong. Most like shocks are done or tire pressure is way too high

    May be you should not talk about cars until she ask again. :D
    They might like to talk more about food, jewelry, houses, etc..

    When I order stuff for my car I even order some other item along with it. So when delivery guy come and she ask me;

    Could be.

    I would bet that more places put LT's at the pressure listed on the door sticker than do this though. Underinflated tires caused the Exploder err Explorer issue...
