2015 4Runner lift recommendations needed!!

    Ok guys. Don't know much about suspension lifts, leveling , spacers and all that. But I do know I'd like to get a little more height to the vehicle just for looks.
    Would rough country 2 inch suspension lift kit look good? recommended?
    Any input/help from you guys is greatly appreciated!

    3" lift but mostly all stock not a scratch on it it is pristine condition amazing for being 19 years old.
    you can go as high as you want but reality is you do not want to go any higher than 3" on a 4runner. simply because you will wear out your ball joints half shafts and basicly all your suspension parts if you go any higher. i have a 3" lift kit and 285-75-16 tires on mine and have had no problems what so ever 3" is kinda the rule for 4runners.hope that answered your question. happy 4running LARRY B.

    Strictly for looks, I'd go for the Toytec 2.5/1.5 spacer lift. Couple hundred bucks, few hours labor to install, and an alignment. Perfect for street use. Not ideal for off road but still usable.

    Note the various options in sizing, 2.5" is the preferred setup for 5th gen 4Rs.

    First things first...steer clear of Rough Country if at all possible. They are not known to offer a high quality product.

    Really depends on what you want to do with your rig...Is it a pavement princess, rock crawler, weekend warrior, overland/expedition, occasional forest service roads? Disclaimer: All the info below is for a 5th gen

    Here are some options I outlined for another member a while back:


    1.Spacers- Not recommend but many folks report they work just fine. They are cheap, but if used off road extensively can cause damage, ride quality will suffer as well.

    2. Bilstein 5100 ride height adjustable shocks. You can set the front shocks to gain .85, 1.75, or 2.5 inches of lift using stock coils. At 1.75" lift in front you will be sitting just about level at the fenders, but will have slight reverse rake at the body. If you go to 2.5" you will need to either get lift springs for the rear or spacers. This set up will run you around $400-600. The higher you go the stiffer the ride will be due to preloading the factory coils.

    3. Also utilizing 5100 shocks you can get some taller front coil springs to gain lift. Toytec, Wheelers, Old Man Emu make 1.6"-3" lift coils. This will add about $170-$200 to first option. This will make for a better ride due to your are not preloading your factory coil springs.

    4. Ride height adjustable coilovers. Many different brands to choose from (Icon, Toytec, Fox, King..) but they are all going to run from about $1000-$3000 just for the front. These are a nice option because you can change the ride height while they are installed on the vehicle from 0-3" without removing the entire coilover assembly. This option will also give you the best ride and off road performance.

    You will also need to take into account that when you do a lift you may need to add some after market upper control arms (UCA's) in order to keep you factory alignment in spec. In general most people can stay within factory specs with stock UCA's as long as you keep the lift under 2.5", but ever vehicle is different and even a 1" lift may require them. They run from $450-$1500 a pair. or will be able to help you out, great companies with very helpful staff.

    Best bang for your buck will probably be Bilstein 5100 up front and spacers in the back.

    Did you have any rubbing issues with the 2.5" Toytec lift and 285/70/17s? How about the ride quality?

    Toytec Ultimate lift, SSO Slimline bumper and 10,000# winch, emblem blackout, hood scoop wrap.
    So far I am happy with the ToyTec 3" Ultimate set at about 2.5". Ride is firm but acceptable and I have 12.5" of clearance at the front skid plate which is plenty for what I do. When the winch goes on and I get some decent tires I will b done.

    Slight rubbing on full lock reverse, cured by trimming the fender liner a little with a razor knife. Super simple and invisible. No issues with ride quality whatsoever, even on off road stuff. I'm not a fan of spacers because they aren't "suspension lift done right", but honestly I can't say anything bad about them.

    when you say 3" is the highest you can go w/o wearing down the suspension. Does it mean 4runner with 4inch lift you'll need a diff drop to prevent CV joint wear and new UCAs and what else do you need to change out to prevent suspension wear?

    i just droped mine down to 2 and 1/4 inch lift it works alot better not as much body roll and handles way better that at 3" put some beefy bf goodrich tires that handle mud and snow beautifully a little loud on the hwy but i dont mind they are great on wet road took the to a tire store and had them cut for more traction didn't cost to much but well worth it.and still handles some pretty wicked trails too much fun!!! LARRYB

    Hi Friends..I'm reading this topic and I'm looking for answers for a problem after lifting with Bilstein 5100.

    The UCA is rubbing the spring; after mec reviewed the installation, hi didn't find anything wrong (well....mecanic default response :)), but took the truck to alignment where they correct some values. Today I didn't hear the "clunk", but still rubbing a little bit....any idea?
