I got in the car Saturday, back out of the driveway, and now the rear backup camera displays the license plate.... What is up with that?

photo of the backup camera display, showing the license plate and bumper is now in frame. Somehow, the camera is now aiming the lens downward, compared to the normal setting from the factory.

Hmm. Could you have recently opened the hatch and inadvertently hit an overhead obstruction with the camera?

I have Adjusted mine Not that there was anything wrong with it I just wanted a better view for when backing the boat down the Ramp.

So what I did (mind you this was time consuming) took the inside panel of the rear hatch off and inserted thin washers at the bottom screw between the bracket and the door frame... Tested Repeat, Tested repeat.... Until I managed to get the results I wanted.
It works well for what I want However it does throw off the actual distant that the Lines are at but that's OK to me because it is further away rather than closer and I am not recommending to do it because when I consider it I could have just purchased one of those wireless License plate frame cameras for it and been done in 15 Minutes and they are fully adjustable rather than the 2 hours I spent fooling with it.

Who cares? This never shows everything anyway.
Mine also looks like it does in the photo. I also thought it was higher in the past. It's probably common for people to think it was higher.

The backup camera's in a stupid spot anyway. It's not dead center in the rear, so you're actually closer to one side than the lines on the camera would have you believe. Which side? I can't remember.

Mine has the same view. Great for hooking up to a trailer.

Yeah original settings great for Hooking up Trailer but when backing down a lot of boat ramps here they aim down too much due to the angle of the Ramp Like the Dirt ones with Ruts and all,

I am probably still going to get a Lic Plate frame one and put mine back to original setup because it would be nice to see the trailer wheels better.

It’s funny you mention that. I’ve had the camera on my last 2 vehicles and never use or look at them. I’ve been driving big trucks on and off since 1989 and never had it so you get used to whatever it is you get used to.

    Thats how it should be.
Watching people "drive" these days is painful. They worship that screen to reverse and are oblivious to people or objects approaching the side of the vehicle.
When they finally get on the road, they don't realize their headlights are off at night. Boggles my mind.

OP, the camera is getting used to its set position after repeated closings of the rear hatch.
To test or just see what these cameras endure, have someone else close the rear hatch while you're seated in the drivers seat.
You'll see the violent shaking the fisheye lens experiences during a normal closure. And then close it like you were in a rain storm.
I really only use mine when backing up to any of my trailers and parallel parking. It's funny to watch the faces of luxury cars owners
that have taken a little bit too much space, because with that camera position, I can get within a gasp of their fancy shit.

I'm also a retired Heavy Equipment/10 wheel dump truck driver. So I trusted my mirrors long before a b/u camera became a thing.
