If that is really true on the 4runner I am even happier I just got a 23 ORP......

 

Same here I like my 5th Gen even more. I am not a fan of retro Bronco or Jeep, it is too small for me personally and lacks towing capacity. I don’t think many Jeep or Bronco owners can sleep in their vehicles and they could only tow a jet ski.

That was a disappointment to hear that prediction

 

Time will tell but this seems more credible than some other scoops/rumors/speculation.

To summarize:

> 5th Gen 4R continues for the 2024 model year, then is all new for the 25 MY. The new gen will be positioned as more of a direct competitor to the Bronco and Wrangler. Some heritage design cues, beefier look, and prob a 2.4L turbo 4 with or without hybrid. Toyota had been gearing up to unveil the 6th Gen for 2024 alongside the new gen LC Prado and Lexus GX, but went back to the drawing board due to the popularity of the Bronco. Thus the delay.

> Both LC Prado and Lexus GX will become global vehicles, so the Prado will be added to the US market alongside the the GX, while the GX will be added to the Asia market alongside the Prado. Both will have heritage design cues and will be turbos, likely the 3.4L V6 in the US with that and a diesel option in other markets.

> All three models will be less reliable and durable, and harder to repair, while making more power and getting better MPG. (Ok, he didn't actually put it that way. But that's what's gonna happen )

 

I watched all of David's videos and lots of others before buying. Got my '23 TRD-ORP 1/6/23. I very deliberately decided I not only liked the current 5th gem version (looks, size, etc.), but I really wanted the super proven reliability. I do not believe there is any chance I will be disappointed when 6th gen comes out.

The rear has no style or personality and the 2-tone paint kills it for me. The design intent imparts the feeling of trying to follow the competition rather than lead.

I really don't support much of what David says because he just parrots whatever has been said a few months earlier.

However, I fear he might be correct when it comes to the rear end styling of the 4Runner.

It appears that Toyota really likes the styling of a mid 90's Previa and wants to bring it back in a big way. Take a look at the ass end of the new Sequoia.

Sadly, this could be in the 4Runner's future as well.

 

In my opinion, the redesigned Tundra is not my cup of tea, and neither is the 3rd Gen Tacoma. If the picture / mockup of the 6th Gen 4 Runner is accurate, I won't like that one either. So glad I have what I have.

 

I remember not being a fan of the tacoma's big mouth bass grill when they came out in 2016. The rest of the styling didn't bother me.

I quite like the Tundra and the front end of the sequoia. The ass end of the Sequoia seems like an afterthought and doesn't match the front, IMO.

Curious to see what the new Tacoma looks like later this year. If it has similarities to the Tundra and Sequoia, I think we'll have a pretty good idea of what the 6th gen will look like.

ugh...not a big fan of the projected new rear end...and I'm not a fan of both the Fiat designed Jeep..and the new retro Broncos, are troublesome...I know two friends who bought them..one a 4 door, the other a 2 dr....and they have been nothing but trouble..especially when going off road...and the quality control has been lacking....perhaps the 2nd gen Broncos, will get it right....

 

Agree. Just fix the taillights and the 4Runner in those renderings would look pretty good to me.

In fact I expect I’ll like everything about it. Except the motor. And the extra computer gizmos.

 

I'll still wait for Toyota to announce things before I get excited or disappointed.

I think it's hilarious that we're on a forum where some members say they wish the 4Runner was smaller and more off-road oriented, and now that it sounds like a possibility, some members sound disappointed.

I guess you can't please everyone.

 

Yeah. Im digging the front end end. But will also save excitement or disappointment for the actually release.

It shows what a diverse group this is. As much as I enjoy my wagon, I could see a smaller, more nimble 4runner being a hit. Especially if they offer the Prado to fill the void. Not gonna lie; there's a part of me that really wants a 2-door Wrangler.

 

The length of the Tacoma front end really bothers me. I hope that doesn’t happen to the T4R. The Tacoma front end looks (is?) longer than the truck bed from some angles on the double cab versions.

 

It's a front end crash safety feature, I believe.

I'd be willing to bet the same will happen with the 6th gen.

Maybe I'm wrong.

If true, the news of yet another year refresh delay is super disappointing to me. As a current owner of a 2014 Wrangler I can't wait to ditch the thing for something capable on moderate trails that does not drive like an ox cart on asphalt, gives me a headache when I drive it for 200 miles, and has better than 16 mpg. Oh yes, I want to be able to sleep in the back without having to pitch a tent every night.

Original plan was to buy the 3rd mod year of a 4runner refresh. But if the 4runner is a 2025 release that means that I have to put up with the tractor... excuse me, Wrangler... for another 4 years. Ain't gonna happen. The trouble is that none of the current crop of overland capable vehicles fits my needs. I am over 6 ft tall so I can't comfortably sleep in any Wrangler and the Bronco is on the small side too.

PS Does anyone find the whole bit about Toyota being surprised by demand a giant reach? They sell every 4runner they make but are surprised by demand?

 

I can imagine them being a little surprised by the annual sales not beginning to trend down for these 'old dinosaurs'. In fact, 2021 was the biggest year ever. 2022 saw a bit of a drop, but I imagine most of that was chip supply problems - 4Runners just weren't available to sell. In today's climate, with that vehicle, and in light of all the opinionated push against such a vehicle, continuing good annual sales volumes are a bit surprising.

 

If you are over 6 feet tall, I'm not sure you will be sleeping comfortably in the back of a 5th Gen 4Runner either. From the second row seat bottoms folded up to the rear hatch door measures a good 4-5 inches short of 6 feet.

I can't find anything about a 4runner and it is SUPER ANNOYING that neither Deep Sleep nor Luno put the length of the mats in their specs. What good it to tell me how tall and wide the mat is but not how long? But other videos with inflatable pads confirm that the available space is under 72 inches

Perhaps a Bronco 4DR is in my future...

 

4 door bronco, front seats forward is about 6'-6" to the tailgate. Broncos are not really smaller than a 4runner. They may lack towing capacity but ask anyone about the tow capacity of a 4runner and consensus seems to be that you don't want to be over 3500...meanwhile, the Bronco may have that for a limit but it handles it without a hiccup, even the 4cyl on 35's. I mean, you can keep shitting on it but the only people who are gonna buy it are people who havent done any research at all...

 

That’s why a free market economy is best we all get to choose. I lost faith in that company a long time ago and with so many recalls across their lineup (not just Bronco) I personally feel many will shy away. As a Detroit boy whose father worked their for 40 years it’s really sad to be honest. This week sadly they announced they would manufacture their Nautilus in China and ship it to the USA for sale. This is a move similar to Buick. Do you not think that is a huge slap in the face to the Americans and Canadians working for them.

We all have to make our choices. I chose something with a higher residual, proven track record and yes it’s Japanese. At the moment we still have a free country so we have those choices.

I wish the men and women at Ford the best. As my friend who managed a Ford dealer said and had a sign in his office. It takes years to gain a customer and only minutes to lose one.

 

Being able to sleep in the back is super important to me so it is goodbye 4Runner hello Bronco for me. Unfortunately the 23 Bronco cannot be ordered any more so I will probably end up with a 24 Black Diamond or Badlands. Can't wait for Toyota to get around to refreshing the 4R.

 

In my third gen if I lie down diagonally from the drivers side to the passenger side I can just barely fit without having to bend my knees. If I need to stretch, forget about it not enough room. But that is very respectable for a car the size of a third gen. I'm 6 feet so I think anyone 6 feet should be fine in a 5th gen since Toyota had widened it by 15 feet since my 3rd gen.

Also just realized that when people say "I got a new 4runner 2020 ORP" it means off road pro not $2020 over retail price. I guess starting in the covid era meant that latter definition was equally likely.

 

ORP is Off Road Premium, at least to me.

 

I watched David for a couple years when I was debating on a 5th gen or 6th. I have lost a lot faith in him, he is wrong more than he is right. He seems to be pushing click bait titles.
