My 1999 4runner is having starting problems. Sometimes it will crank and crank, but won't start. Once it starts it runs great, no missing or anything. I replaced fuel pump and filter.
    any ideas?

The ECU needs to see that everything is working properly before it will energize the coils.

Since you replaced the fuel pump, I would look at the crank sensor or cam sensor. I would think a bad MAF would cause a code and CEL.

    Do you have a CEL?

I did get a crank sensor code, it cleared so I figured it was because I was over cranking. I better check it then. Thanks!

Any sensors you buy, make sure they are from Toyota or Toyota suppliers.

Didn't get an MAF code, I recently cleaned it. Did have a code for the Crank Position sensor, which I changed to no avail.
It seems to have the hardest time starting when its cold, once its warmed up it starts ok, but still needs to crank for a few seconds. When its cold intakes a long time, and will usually start if I stop cranking turn ignition off and try again. After the second or third try at this Varoom! starts up and runs fine.
