Cannot stand the front end rake

Hello all,
I am new to the 4R world. Bought my first toyota ever! Anyway, I bought a 2023 TRD Off Road and I cannot stand the front end rake! I know I need a leveling kit, but can anyone recommend a kit? I see kits with shocks, kits with plate only, and kits with shocks, springs, and a whole bunch of other things. I just want to level my ride and not sure what is best for me. Does KDSS suspension make any difference? Help please and thank you!

 

We have a RevTek leveling kit, it does the trick, as far as 'the look', I told myself it's just until we get the Elka shocks/lift on. We have done a far amount of off-road, but it's not the answer for replacement of a 'real' lift/shocks. BTW we have the kits w/shocks.

5100s.

 

For the lift on my '23 OR, I used Bilstein 5100s in the front to raise it 1.75". Then used Cornfed 1" rear spacers. Pleased with my results.

 

I like this amount of rake. The hooptie look

 

i got adjustable coilovers for the front and bilstein 5100s for the rear,leveled it out perfect,still handles and rides nice and if i ever wanted to lift it 3 inches all i need is the rear coils.i bought them from a place called toytec out of colorado.

 

Bilstein 5100 will level it out.

 

Old school rake

 

There's a couple ways to achieve the "leveled" look.

Bilstein and eibach shocks are the go to. The front you can adjust the height to level out the stance.

Or top hat(lift spacers) .5" spacers provide 1" of lift. Also since 4runners do not sit level. You can add a .5" spacer to the passenger side and a .75" spacer to the driver side. Small spacers do not effect ride quality.

 

The rake has a prepose, throw a few hundred pounds of stuff in the back, problem solved.

KDSS limits the amount of lift you can add. But its only a 1.5" difference so a modest lift or a little weight in the back will level it out. Don't forget to relevel your headlights.

Lift done. I didn't measure the front before I installed everything but the rears went from 21 5/8 and 22 1/4 to 25 and 25 1/2 in the rear. The front is now 23 and 22 5/8 Was hoping this lift would fix my level problem but the frame must be bent or something. It's been off since I bought it but I didn't notice until I approached it one day in the parking lot from the back.

Oh well. Maybe it will settle more even.

Lack of consistent lift at the different corners doesn't usually indicate a bent frame - usually it's just weigh distributed unevenly around the vehicle, such as the gas tank being located on the driver side.

Also, remember to get a post-lift alignment done, which can sometimes help.

Looks like that V8 block would help lower the rear. lol

Do you have KDSS? That can cause a lean a bit.

 

i was thinking the same.. just put it in the back and be done with it.. easiest and quickest leveling .. might lose an MPG or two... lol


as far as the OP fretting about being half an inch or less off between the sides just go out and use the 4Runner and she will settle into place.. right now shes not even been used after a new suspension install.

 

The lower side is the driverside correct?

4runners have all the heavy stuff on the driverside(gas tank, battery, driver, etc.) So the driver side is always lower.

Most including myself put a .25" lift spacer/shim on the front driver's side.

You can also do the same in the rear(if the rear is unlevel)

 

Bilstein 5100 shocks are $200 for the pair. Can install yourself without needing coils, it is pretty easy. Move it to the 0.85" and enjoy the reduced nose dive.

 

Is the ride quality the same as OEM?

Most would call it much improved. You really only get into gives and takes once you start changing spring rates. I will note, I chose the 1.5" setting and got 2in. So you may end up with 1.35" instead of 0.85", which is nearly level. Every 4runner seems different for some reason. Maybe it will settle out eventually.

Personally, I wouldn't do spacers because the shocks are barely more expensive. I also do not have experience with them, but plenty of people here do.

 

If by ride quality you mean the old school, Cadillac soft ride feel (which I actually love on the road), then no … you will lose that. I just did the Eibach Stage 2.0 and it is firmer, but not jarring. The original suspension felt luxurious / pampering, where this now feels sporty. In the one SR5 I rode in with the 5100 and stock springs, it was definitely firmer (compared to my stock at the time, TRD Off Road). I understood the change, but I still made the decision to go for it. I’m liking how it drives now, but granted … I’ve only put on 70kms (44miles).

I have some Bilstein 6112s for a 2017 Tacoma limited I never got around to installing and now have a 2023 4Runner ORP. Will they fit?

If the mounting points are the same you could probably put them on. Might not be a good idea since the spring rates could be different, spring and shock length could be inadequate, spring diameter could be different etc.

If you can determine all these things to be equal then have at it. Otherwise you're just shooting in the dark as to your outcome.
